bass and basslines....what do YOU use?

so i'm having trouble incorporating some decent sounding bass in my tracks. i'm using cubase 3, and i'm trying to create basslines with vsts, and they usually come out sounding too synthy....i'm using battery for all my percs, but i want the melodic flexibility of vsts to use with my basslines. can anyone recommend a good vst for bass (or better method of creating some good bass)? i'm working on deep techy prog stuff right now...

As far as it sounding too synthy the problem is you need to proper Eq, or Filter, and cut out the higher frequencies, unless you are wanting a digital bass for back round bass use. if you want a solid Sub bass then in that case you need to filter better as well as Eq the SOB and roll off the higher frequencies... then Further EQ to make it fit better in the track man... all kind of Tutorials on EQing.

and its very rare to find info about proggramming bass's such a well kept secret. What I can tell you though is.. use a SInE wave or Triangle for the low end.. and experement with that and filtering and you will kind of get the idea.

I produce very Housey music and I use FL. For Bass I usaually use:

Wasp
TBL
The Bass-thing that comes with Fruity, don't remember the name. It's great for real(ish) Bass-sounds.

And then I use some soundfonts and sample loops with that. I'm planning on recording some bass loops of my own with a friend who plays the electric bass.

^^^ you probably mean the TBS404?
i usually use a sytrus or some other vst i have in FL, i dont usually bother these days with [;ugins, if your having trouble getting the low end feeling, take it down an octave or two.

Not to flame you or anything, but are you serious? I have never ever been able to crank enough oumph out of it to call it bass...it simply lacks bass. Please prove me wrong if you have some good results from that one.

I myself use several different synths for bass. If i need a regular house-bass i use pro53 with different eq's and effects depending on what i want. If you want to hear an example go here and listen to the sample.
That one is pro53 with a simple saw-wave-bass, eqed and run through sidechain compressor.

I'm going to do what I usually do in these situations and push Tweakbench Pressure. This is quite possibly the best free bass plugin you can find. Just do some processing and you have a very fat bass. If you listen to any of my music, the bass you hear will invariably be pressure.

I meant BooBass.

He's talking about the real bass-station, not the n00b software vst. :)
