ok this is to all people living in either the U.S. or Canada from an angry European guy from The Netherlands:
a few weeks ago there was this subject in the eveningnews about this guy who was the spokesperson of movie theatres in The Netherlands, he was almost crying like a baby because revenue is going down with almost 11% per year the last 4 years, he said it was due to downloading movies... the same thing is happening with the cd industry, when the Euro was introduced the price of a cd went to €25 which is ridiculous imo and so a great bunch of people started downloading their cd's and now the industry is saying the high price for a cd is due to illegal downloading...!!
but okay back on topic: a while ago I discoverd a wonderful film called 'Baraka'(a must see btw) and downloaded it..watched it a few times and thought it was nice to have it for the rest of my life in the form of a real dvd.. so two friends of mine were touring through the U.S. for the past six weeks and I phoned them(EXPENSIVE!)to bring me a copy of the legal dvd..!!
well they got back yesterday and I was anxious to play the dvd see how much better the quality would be and everything... I put it in my dvd player and I get this message: unable to play due to region restrictions....!!!
so here's the deal I was told that the industry does this to prevent large import of dvd from northern america... but how am I able to help the music or movie industry if I don't get what I pay for???
that's all, thanks for hearing to my wining:)
oh and btw to make it up for the complaining here are the title's of the three songs that are rocking the scene here atm and my past saturday night in club Index in Germany for anyone that wants to know...

I feel your pain m8 - As a DJ (and I'm sure many TA's will agree with me on this) I run into the same problem, all the time, when I'm trying to buy new tracks from Digital Download sites. Specifically, German and Danish record labels tend to not sell to those of us in the US, and the reasoning behind it is that different labels handle similar (if not the same) tracks in different regions. The problem is that a lot of tunes that are released in Germany and Denmark are never relased to a US audience, meaning if I want the track, I am almost forced into pirating it.
With the breaking down of borders and the coming of the "digital" or "information" age, region restrictions seem to be more of a hinderence than a help, and in my opinion, it's definitely time for these kinds of archaic arrangements to be sorted out for both the benefit of the artist and the consumer. |

this is the cd industries way of sticking it to people.
it only costs a few dollars to make a DVD and they sell them cheaper in India and 3rd world countries but they always put a region code on it |

| use a computer dvd player, you can change its region code. any dvd player will play any dvd as long as you can switch region codes. however be carefull some dvd roms will only let you change the code two or three times before it locks it to one. i got a copy of season 1 of little brittain from the uk, switched region codes on my dvd rom, ripped it using dvd shrink, changed the code to north america then burned it. it was a major pain in the ass but its the only way to get around it im affraid |

Why are you blaming Americans and Canadians? I mean, I could have wrote this exact same thing a few months ago when I bought Danny Howell's Choice CD x2 and DVD from Amazon UK since it hadn't been released in the US yet. The CDs worked fine, but unfortunately, I can't see the interview or the audio mix on the DVD because it's a European Region DVD and I don't have a region-free player. It sucks, but it's a worldwide issue. You'd have had the same problem if your friends picked it up in Japan, because they're a different region, too. |
