Summer Jobs

Okay...so here's my rant.
Last summer I didn't start looking for jobs until way late in the summer. I ended up getting a really good paying job...so whatever.
But this year I met with a career advisor in March and have been slowly looking for summer jobs since then. I was hoping to find a summer job in the field of Criminology. I've handed up SO many resumes and have called, emailed and followed up to make sure I'm interested. You know what I got? I've recieved numerous responses saying that only there are only volunteer opportunities or no positions available. A number of people I haven't even heard back from. I've had 5 interviews...all went very well, in fact my last one went EXTREMELY well. I get a call on Monday - sorry we've already filled the position! AHHHHHH!!
I'm so discouraged right now. My advisor tells me I've been doing the right thing all along, so why haven't I gotten a job! I'm so frustrated, I NEED MONEY!!!

I hear your rant. Looking for a job is frustrating especially when you do as much as you can and get nowhere. Whatever you do, be persistent and keep the momentum going!

well said.
Also, while it is pretty obvious that the people you are dealing with are a little anal, look at the situation such that you are not doing something right. You could check out a job site like monstertrak.com/.ca and take a look at what skills companies require for the job you want and redesign your resume based on those requirements. All the best. |

i been on e.i. since february and am not settling for a damn fast food or retail job screw that
looking for work sux!

That suckss...
But keep the optimism on...Look at it this way, when you do get your job you will appreciate it a lot more than you would have otherwise without trying enough...I guess struggling is what makes winning fun...good luck Lisa!!!! |
