| Tiesto14, Yeh rite? 150? I bought a set of Brembo 4 Piston brake set with cross-drilled/slotted rotors for about $2000! They stop on a dime! I love the TEIN's they work wonders on the track. |

| Lazgti |
Sti...you got the full Brembo kit thats why...I beleive Tiesto has the rotors only which are not too pricey.
Tiesto..damn its low. I agree with you and ABT lower is not always better. I got H&R springs and they are not really low (only 1.3 inches) which is fine. It looks a bit lower and handles much better but to get what I want out of the handling I gotta drop toomuch dough...on a car thats over 10 years old. I am planning on selling it in a year or so and stepping up to the plate for a 350Z or TT...hopefully if I can land a good job.
Cool ride though...I really like the leather! |

| crikys 3400 for h&r coilovers? aren't they like 2000? well anyways i'm not a fan of hondas but your car is very nice and is not rice |

Yeah I agree too. Too low isn't that good. I cracked my front lip awhile ago cause my car was too low. Yeh i figured Tiesto14 just got the rotors.
lazgti, get the TT! |

yea the reason i ONLY have the rotors is because i resentley had my calipers chromed out...so i didnt wanna but performance calipers then chrome them....know what i mean...
thanks for saying my car is NOT rice....beleive it or not i hate 99.9%% of hooked up Hondas or Acuras that i see...
like i said the reason my coilovers cost alot IS because i got them when they first cam eout...they have height and dampening adjustment not just height...i can also adjust how soft or hard i want them to be......
the one thing i did get hooked up in was the leather....all i had to do was buy the material because i have a friend who owns an upolstrey (spelling) shop...so he sticthed it for me for free...i had the seats, door panels and the headliner all wrapped in light gray leather.... |

The car is nice...I like the rims and the interior is kickin thats for sure.
I hate most riced out Acs and Hondas as well, but to me its more of the concept of modifying the crap out of something that is really not worth modifying. I am totally into suspension mods. The fact that you spent so much Tiesto just tells me that you really worked magic on the whole thing as opposed to the half-ass suspension tuning that so many guys do. Alot of peeps just do the springs or coilovers and expect the car to be awesome because its low. Coilovers are awesome but the sway bars and control arms and all the suspension components have to work in unison. If you don't have money to do the whole suspension doing one or two things isn't going to solve the handling problem. I know alot of idiots lower their car to the floor and can't handle for and they end up wearing out really expensive rubber for nothing. Personally, I don't like too low because I have not only lost the lip spoiler but lost my entire bumper on my friends driveway! Hows that STi? I was laughing my ass off at first and then thought about how much I spent the week before on a downpipe and manifold...then it wasn't so funny. In any case the coilovers are great no matter what especially if you got the fully adjustable ones. I think H&R has different stages of tuning right? Yours is probably the stage 5 or something. They make good . I didn't expect to so happy with my springs. I am not so pleased with my BOGE shocks but the springs do not sag at all. All my buddies with 1991 or 1992 GTIs had to get their springs cut or whatever to level them out. Plus mine has been lowered the least and handles as well or better than theirs. And I have no worries about snow etc. (but I am sick of Canadian winters).
About the Brembos...I didn't mean to sound like I was mocking you man just some people misunderstand. I have a friend who is really realy into tuning. We were talking with this dude who had put in Brembo rotors and they do make a huge difference I know because another buddy of mine added them to his GTI and he stops awesome now...but this other guy was acting like he did a full upgrade and showing off. My buddy was like "You got the whole 4 pot caliper and the x-drilleds and uprated master". The dude was like "Yeah..man full Brembo race kit". We checked it out through his rims and he had stock brakes calipers painted red with the x-drilled rotors. My buddy was losing it he was like what a poser this and that. I was like relax who cares. Anyways...I think you only need that ultimate breaking power of the full kit if you have really done crazy things with the motor and if the car is going to be raced. I think you can get some really good brake improvements just from using a larger drilled rotor and good pads. Those with more zeal can add a bigger master cylinder, some stainless braided lines and its sorted. I was thinking of upgrading my brakes not because I have alot of power but because the stock 8 valve GTI came with drums in the rear and the car is much sportier than people beleive. My buddies, my mechanic, the dealership nearby...they were all very impressed by my car and have suggested that it was a factory fluke because the motor pulled very very strong. I could keep up with the more expensive 16vs most of the time unless I was racing a better driver. But in any case, because of its impressive demeanour I drive the snot out of it. She has 200,000 kilometers and I have been driving it hard almost non-stop. It is exposed to redlines constantly hehe. I love it. But anyways, because I drive so crazy...I need better brakes. I constantly go through them and I end up half way through intersections all the time:stongue: I was going to use the brakes from a 16v or Corrado but the money involved is just not worth it. If i was going to keep the car as a long term project then great. But I know myself I am starting to get bored of it and I am sick of driving a car that all the 18 year old thugs check out. When I get settled again and figure out if I am staying in Canada, then I might get myself the TT. Thanks for the suggestion STi. I love the new 350Z but I looked at the US MSRP...its going to be in excess of $50Gs candian and will not have leather unless a specific luxury package is ordered. They have it setup as entry level 350Z, Touring, Luxury and Track Ready. The track ready is the one that I would wantbecause it would have 18" rims and you guessed it...Brembo 4 pot calipers at all corners. Plus some other to give it a handling edge...but leather IMO is a must if I am going to spend that kind of money. I think I'll go with the TT when I get the money. Its AWD, its got the 1.8T engine which is somewhat mainstream now as they put it in Golfs and Jettas so repairs will be more accessible as some independant mechanics will be able to work on the car too as long as they've worked on a VW. Plus it looks kick ass, easy as hell to tune it (all that is needed is a chip and the base model TT goes from 180 HP to 205HP, not even upgrading the turbo), looks beautiful and I have seen a few around in the used market for not too much money. I am sure if I come in with a low offer I could get one...just glad I didn't...this economy sux. I was on top of the world and thought my job was totally safe...OK I am getting depressed again...cheer me up guys... |

to Lazgti:....
I agree with what u say....taking a car and spending alot of money on it...especially hondas or acuras is a WASTE.....I am soooo bored of the whole scene of imports....everyone thinks they have a fast car because they added an exhaust or intake...or blah blah blah....they brag about runnin 14 seconds in the 1/4 mile...as if thats fast...LOL.....or they put stickers on their cars to make it look good or seem fast...but in all actuality it makes the car look ghetto to me....
as far as the brakes go....i had a plan to chrome out the every piece in the wheel wells...like calipers, forks, tie-rods, sway bars and etc...so i made the decision NOT to go and buy the expensive brakes....which i should of,....because they are sweet as HELL...but i dont think i would have gone with Brembo...i would more then likely go with Willwood or Baer.....
Yea i agree with you that lowering springs and stiff shocks setup is not always going to work....i started off with Eibach springs and Tokico shocks...but the the Tokico shocks blew out...so i was pissed....so i bought Suspension Techniques coilovers...(real coilover not these fake as ones that are on the market now)...they rode nice but i did not have dampening adjustment and wasnt please with that...and the car kinda had to much body roll with them even after i installed my sway bars (front and rear)....so again i said lemme try again...so i then went back to spring and shock combo...this time with Neuspeed/H&R springs and Koni 5 way adjustable shocks...i was VERY happy...the car was stiff as hell but a little toooooo stiff for me even with the Koni's on setting 1....it was mainly cus Neuspeed/H&R's springs where to stiff...so i got rid of them and thats when H&R came out with what i needed height and dampening adjustment...and the car drove like a dream...
But the H&R's werent enough being so low....my camber was so off it was crazy and i had ALOT of oversteer...so i took my car to this guy who specializes in SCCA cars to adjust all of the camber and tow in tow out...he did this and i was very impressed with it...but thats when he suggested i get the bushing set,,,abd like i said they werent available...so we had to contact Suspoension Techniques who actually met me at a car/race show at Englishtown NJ...we talked and they listned..and months and months later they where done with the set....it includes EVERY single bushing that the car can have...from linkage to tie-rod to sway bar...every bushing the car has....
So now i took my car back to the guy who does the SCCA cars and we took the entire suspension down...totally down...we took everything off.....then we rebuilt it....adjusting the camber and caster and tow all over again...setting the shocks to the perfect setting and aligning the car at the height it sits now...which was very hard...to align it with the wheels , (not just the tires...the rims also) in the wheelwells is IMPOSSIBLE to do right at most shops....
So to align the car we set evrerything up and everything was adjusted to what i desired and what he felt would be good...so now the aligning was all that was left.....we took off the front fenders, front bumper, rear quarter panels, and rear bumpers to get the car at that height it is now on the machine....it looked like a skeleton....but with all the pieces off we could use the aligning machine to the best it can be...
it was in the shop for almost a month getting setup for the suspension...and i am VERY pleased...i have no oversteer, no understeer, very little body-roll, perfect alignment, camber adjusted to perfection even with it being negative...and when i tell you when we took it out on the road...i thought i was going to in my pants the way it handled...like it was on rails.... |

I love handling...I can live without extreme power...its more of the cars attitude that I care for. For instance my GTI is not fast by any sense of the word. I just cannot call a 105 HP car fast. Is it quick enough. It sure as hell is. Does it out accelerate most cars out there? Probably not, but it is fun to drive because it capitalizes on what its got and it does not try to be a quiet luxo car. Mine is loud and obnoxious...it has an exhaust which is way too loud but it keeps my speed in check because if I am cruising at anything more than 3000rpms I am going to have a headache. It has helped out with freeing up the engine a bit so I am probably up to about 110 or so with the intake mods too, but still I just say 105 because I figure I lost a few horses because the compression cannot be 100% after all these years and all that ass kicking I have done to it.
I agree, dropping sick dollars on imports for the sake of being fast is way stupid. Go to JWelty.com and see all these idiot veedub kids rhying off all these mods they have done and not even being able to outpull a Mustang or Camaro on the strip. Whats the point? These cars are meant to be economical, fun to drive, practical well-built cars...Chevy and Ford has the right idea when it comes to drag strip supremacy. When it comes to building a quality car they can't do it because the formula is incompatible with sheer straight line performance. VWs and Imports are small displacement cars balancing good handling, strong power, fuel efficiency and high tech reliability etc. These idiots go out there throw reliability and balance aside so they can say they have the fastest Civic or Golf. Fahkin retards...their cars are still slow! The best is the guys who buy brand new ones like 1.8Ts spend almost $30Gs CDN on these things and then spend an extra 10-15 on perfromance upgrades that totally void the warranty. If I bought a new car and had the nice new car smell, and the tight feeling of a new car, I would not be thrashing it and kicking the piss out of it with double the PSI in boost and constant racing especially since I could have bought a 'stang or Z28 used for less, drop in a free flowing exhaust, do some engine work bigger carbs, maybe add a supercharger and do a quarter in like 10 or 11 seconds. Go to these VW forums its classic...they all give each other props for doing 15 second 1/4s...I just sit there laughing because they spent more than the car is worth on mods on 15 year old cars so they can do 15s. Why not just enjoy the car for what it is I don't get it...
I mean I am all for improving the car to make it more fun but within reason. When the cost starts to exceed the benefit, it has to stop. Like on my car...I love it and I know it has alot of life left in it if I fix up certain things that need repairs, but I know I am bored of it now...if I spend money on upgrades to make faster etc, it'll be wasted money cause if I ever need to sell or I trash the car and insurance has to settle with me, the car will still be worth what every other 1992 GTI is worth...ie very little. So if my car is worth CDN$6,000 now. And I spend $2Gs just to fix up some rough spots (refinish the rims as they are corroded, performance brakes etc) the car will not be worth 8Gs if it gets written off it'll still be only 6. So I would rather just sell it for 6, keep the 2 I saved, add another 2 and buy myself a $10G car.
How you feeling by the way. How was your results bash?
Oh BTW what happened to the old avatar? |

FINALLY someone agrees with me on this topic....when i people look at my car and i then tell them i HATE the import scene..thay dont understand.....
All these people with imports think they get real Horsepower outta their cars with these modifications but they dont AT ALL...it s a joke....
for example HP gains on a typical import:
1. Bigger throttle body = 1 HP
2. Cam gears = 4 HP
3. Exhaust = 6 HP
4. Intake = Maybe 10 HP
5. Headers = 4 HP
its a joke if u ask me....the only way u can get REAL power out of an import is with FORCE INDUCTION...meaning super-charge, turbo, or nitrous...besides that ur wasting ur money....so many people i know spent tons of money on upgrades and are still going 14s...maybe high 13s....but for the same price u could buy half the upgrades for a Camaro or Mustang and blow the doors off most cars runnin high 10s...
I dont care what import is have...with all of your upgrades you will NEVER have the power off a blown 427 HEMI....thats a real engine that will rip the outta that VTEC crap....
UUUUGGGHHHH i hate it when i am at a stop light and some rice burner pulls up next to me and revs his engine to race....its a joke...i mean I KNOW my car is slow...why cant they admit theirs are also....one time i saw this kid with no hood covering his engine cruising around...i was like hey man whats up with that.,...he said..well i am saving weight and the car runs cooler with out the hood...i was like ARE U SERIOUS...what a loser...whats he going to gain .5 HP doing that...the funny thing was that he was driving a 86 Civic with no other modification done to his car...i was like dam this kid is thinking he has a fast car with no hood imagine when he gets an exhaust he will think he is speed racer..LOL....
and thanks for asking man...my bash was GREAT...i got so wasted i slept till 6 at night the next day...LOL...i was destoyed...LOL....my friends really took me out and showed me a good time at some club in Connecticut....
I dunno about the avator...i was bored and needed a change after that situation...u know like flush out all the bad thoughts and ...so i changed it...plus i think Tiesto looks VERY creepy in my new avator so it makes me laugh...LOL.. |
