Anyone using KRK RP8 Rokits? Looking for a pair of monitors around the $1000 mark just to tide me over until I can afford HR824's or something lol... Recommendations kids?

A mate has these. I dont really like them TBH - i find theyre too bass heavy.

Try look for a pair of 2nd hand Yamaha NS-10's, they're the daddy but pretty hard to come across.
deceptikon
was kinda after something brand new tbh.. any other suggestions? :p

They are awesome...
c0z eye have them...

As for NS10's they used to be the standard studio monitors that everyone mixed on... However they do not have a flat frequency response ( very midrangy ) which made producers overcompensate their bass and highs aka smiley effect :) :) :)

really? throughout my audio engineering course my lectures would swear by them as being one of the most natural sounding speakers around. Interesting..

How do you find the Mk2's? Do you recommended them?

On an NS10 there was no bass, no high end, just screeching awful sounding peaky mids. People who referenced on them had to boost the bass massively and cut the mids. The resultant mix? Yep, the disco smile. It made hit after hit and people thought they were magic. If you could make the shrill box sound passable, it would sound great everywhere else.

As for the MK2's they are awesome mangz... They arent flat either but tracks sound barra on them... They are a tad high in the bass but thats about it... they look hawwwt too

both myself and luke chable use these, the krk rp8's imo really bloody good for the price.

i also have the rp10s subby that matches this series.

used to have the behringer truths (also farkin cheap), and im way more pleased with the rp8's so yeah they rock

just reading through some previous posts, and noticed someone mentioned they were "too bass heavy" thats bull, hence why i added a sub. i thought the truths were more "bassy" than the rp8s. the mid range is super clear as is the top end, i found really low bass actually a little abscent hence why i added a sub (always intened to anyways). the sub doesnt "add bass" it makes u hear it if its there.

dont bother with ns10's they not so crash hot with dance music. i dont know anyone with them in melbs any more, and because they are so old now, most are in condition (rubbers around the speaker cracked etc etc), and u would need to get a awesome amp for them as they are not powered (and i saw awesome so its a nice 'quiet' amp). luke used to have the ns10's and we both agree that the rp8's rock :)

make sure u have a room set up well too. putting speakers in corners isnt a great idea. same with having them against walls

hope that helps out a bit more

I use the rp6's and theyre fine.. but i've heard some great mixes come off any monitor.. i guess its all about learning what you have well and a/bing it with a pro track

definately a speaker that has a flat response to me is essential

deceptikon
im leaning towards the rp8's... i will go listen to a set this w/e they have been highly recommended by a few people including pascal feliz (hard trance guy) so yeah... give em a bash, no harm in trying! :p

Placement of the speaker can make a huge difference in bass respone. Maybe thats why jåcë has said that they seemed bass heavy. As soon as i get abit of extra cash i know im going straight for the RP8s.
Has anyone narrowed done a good place to buy it from for price?
