Why Wealth Doesn't Buy Happiness (pg. 2)

Let me say this: Billions of people in the world are starving to death, or dying from painful illnesses. I can pretty much accurately guess that these people are not happy. If they had any kind of wealth they could afford food and medicine and have a better standard of living. This, my friends, may not make them happy in our terms, but it would be euphoria compared to their current situations.

I would also like to state that I've observed many relationships be destroyed due to financial issues.

Yes. Stressing over the budget and having to take multiple jobs simply to live is very burdening and IMO depressing.

On another note, I'm pretty damn sure if you surveyed 10,000 poor people and 10,000 rich people that a larger % of people from the rich group would be content with their lives than the poor group. I do agree however that many people DO live absolutely wonderful happy lives without ever even making it to middle-class status.

Of course they do...but ask them if they would be just a little bit more happier with an extra million...lol...money does bring happiness....the better question is - can it bring love, i dont think it can.

I dont believe it can either. I think what this thread is truly asking is whether being rich automatically means being happy, and I say of course not.

hehe Brooks, we think so much alike man! I cant stand it too when people say that money doesnt buy happiness. First of Happiness can not be bought, it is not an item, but im sure that if it was for sale, it would be bought, so the question should be more like, money does bring happiness, which in my opinion it does.

There are tons of poor people out there that arent happy..and im sure the ratio to that one of rich people that arent happy is not even close.
Id rather worry about bigger problems and have money, then starv to death. Alot of times, the people that have money and arent happy is because they do not know how to use money the right way, and use it wisely, so it becomes a problem.

I agree that money doesnt buy love though.

Money = not the root of all evil
misusing money = root of evil

ahh the whole "money doesn't buy happiness" ploy this whole argument is s00o0o000oooo old and stupid. what's the root of most people's problems? lack of a good/decent lifestyle? oh im sorry big TVs are spoiling people? how? because you wanna indulge yourself after a 15 hour day at the office trying to run your company or a doctor who just performed brain surgery and saved a life wants to come home and enjoy life in all it's vibrant colour? pfft, STOP BEING JEALOUS GODDAMNIT.

Money will make you happy if you earn it rather than being born with a lot of money. You ever see those kids who are going to inherity on their 21st b-day like 300million dollars? Those kids are not exactly the happiest kids. They use drugs because they know they have a lot of money and they won't ever run out of drugs because their parents have money and so will their children.

Money won't necesarily make you happy, but I figure if you can buy a kilo of cocaine every week; than it just might.

It's not the accumulation of wealth that makes one happy. It's knowing a life without the money to do as you please and later finding that you can (within reason). There's lots of unhappy people who are wealthy. Not for a second do I doubt that they'll be less happy if they lose their money.

And I agree, without money, you're much less likely to be happy, especially if you consider those that are really poor. My parents aren't wealthy by any means, and they fought about finances all the time, thus causing unhappiness for the entire family, kids included. At this point in my life, I don't really have that problem because I do well for myself, IMO. I work long hours, but I can afford to go out and do fun things pretty consistently, which makes me happier than I would be without it.

Money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure doesn't hurt your chances. The question is, "How MUCH money does it take for you to have the things required to make you happy?" Some people are just happy with less. Not everyone needs a $5000 suit to make them happy, but if you're born wealthy and you suddenly can't afford it, you're unhappy because you have to settle for one that's only $1000, which is just sad.

I'd like to suggest to anyone in this thread who is wealthy, but not happy;

Please send me all of your money, as it would make me VERY happy...and hell, at least that would make one of us.:D

One of my favorite quotes:

"Whoever opined 'Money can't buy you happiness' obviously had far too much of the stuff."

Ignorance/laziness/apathy/lack of compassion by themselves or others.

Here's a question:

Someone says you can have all the money you could ever possibly want. You can buy all the electronics, fine foods, cars and houses you could ever dream of. The stipulation is you have to live on an island and can never again have a meaningful relationship with another person.

Do you think the money and it's abilities alone will make you happy forever?

that's one of the dumbest questions i've ever heard and has nothing to do with this.
