Just imagine...Your Life Without Internet

Do you even remember what it's used to be like?
I am borderline old school. It has changed my life around the time when I was finishing high school so I have lived longer without than with it.
And now? Now it is really hard for me to imagine without having all that information at my finger tips and I don't even consider myself big surfer/user because I know friends whose lives totally depend on it.
What are your thoughts on this? What are the pros and cons? Do you think the impact is mostly positive? Is it really bringing people closer? What did it do for you?
I was reading a thread on pen pals- an ancient idea by now. For us anyway. It is reality for some people that still don't have access to the internet.

| Life without high speed internet sucks, so I imagine life without internet would suck bigtime. I lived in TO with hi-speed and moved to an area without hi-speed for awhile (big mistake). Having access to information regarding anything you like is a huge factor these days. How many times in the past week or so can you remember thinking about something while watching tv, reading a book, talking to someone, etc... and then using the net to find more info? For me the internet is a neccesity. |

i can definitely relate to you. when we finally got the internet, i didn't even know what high speed was!! it was finally made available here in Barry's Bay a while ago, and I just got it like 2 or 3 weeks ago. When I was on dial up (for like 2 years) it was bad. and i was barely online because it would "tie up the phone line." So I did a lot of reading when i was bored. I still read the newspaper daily, but I really like the fact that I have sooo much information available to me at the click of a button. I think that it is amazing to be able to do school research and such with the internet, instead of having to spend half my time looking for books and articles in the library! |

| I'd be much more productive without the internet, which is why I choose to not have internet at home during school, but rather use the school labs for research and email. |

Yup...Before in the "cave man days" I used to just play poker when ever I travelled to Casino Rama, Port Perry and Brantford with friends from Toronto. It was mostly for entertainment and recreational killing of boredom. At the time, they were the only places to play poker around Southern Ontario.
However, 3 years ago I started playing poker online. The rest is history, I'm an online poker junkie and don't work anymore. In fact, I've even started sports betting because some of my wagering accounts are combination sports and poker gambling sites... :whip:
Maybe one day I'll be Daniel Negreanu. Wishful thinking! LOL:stongue: |

Its funny how a lot of people use the internet for their research. Unfortunately, in my experience I've found the internet to be a vast ocean of information and knowledge, none of it very deep.
I dunno, the Internet is most definitely a great resource, but I don't really know if I'd call it a neccessity. Its like any other technology that becomes so ridiculously prominent, that it becomes a part of everyday life. You wonder how you got along before it, but yet we all somehow did, and at the time, we probably weren't sitting around and wondering "Gosh, if only there was some incredibly widespread, digital information medium, where you can buy anything you waht, my life would be complete" :p |
