Just to let you know before you leave Cuba to exchange your money back into Canadian....the cuban currency is restricted and is actually illegal to take out of the country or to even bring into the country....as well my boss was their not too long ago and said that you'll get the best exchange rate at the cuban airport.

If you do forget to exchange your money back try and make sure to come back with as little coin as possible for no one will take it. As well I work at a currency exchange so if you do bring some cuban back PM me and I will see what I can do about getting you a good rate for putting your money back into Canadian.

I have always been lucky using debbie's review site with real opinions from people that traveled to the the exact resort and time of year that you might be going.

where?

all stores are govt owned and operated, sell at the same price, 12.90 for a 7 years old havana club.

There's no such thing as a private alcohol store with different (lower) prices unless you bought it off the street.

If I'm not mistaken the special edition in a box was 35 pesos.

if you talk to your bartender in any all inclusive resort, leave him good tip from time to time, they will be more than happy to sell you any original brands for 2-3 pesos. its all inclusive, nobody notices that kind of things, but u do it "under the table"

i came back from varadero 2 days ago, and due to contracting a serious case of food poisoning on the flight back, have only managed to gather enough strenght to get out of my bed an hour ago... ughh

anyways, i would suggest going to varadero, it's got great beaches, great nightlife (well, not great, but best you'll get anywhere in Cuba), and it's close to havana so you can day-trip it if you get bored in a resort... and as malek said, get ready to be ed over everywhere, they're all just looking for ways to scam tourists, and be ready to tip, a lot...
