anyways, i would suggest going to varadero, it's got great beaches, great nightlife (well, not great, but best you'll get anywhere in Cuba), and it's close to havana so you can day-trip it if you get bored in a resort... and as malek said, get ready to be ed over everywhere, they're all just looking for ways to scam tourists, and be ready to tip, a lot...

friggin sucks ass.

where were you staying?

I looked at that review site and jesus christ..talk about mixed reviews right down the middle :nervous:

now i'm nervous about the resort we pick, any help?

thus far we were considering Hotel Villa Cuba, if you guys can suggest a nice resort near the beach with all the good stuff ( not rediciously expensive ) please help me out :D

ps. has anyone been there in july? I'm hearing it's really rough this time of month there...is this true?

thanks!

we changed CA$, the rate was around 1$=75-78 Cuban cents, no charges..yes and they don't even accept US $

also don't bother with credit cards..well I dunno about rest of Cuba, but where we were it was hard to catch a taxi sometimes, let alone find a credit card machine

they accept US in very select governemnt run places but the fee is ridiculously high.

Perhaps now they are accpeting Canadian more than in the past. But when they first stopped accpeting US they were only taking pounds and euros.

they'll take canadian only if its in 20$ cuts and in good condition (bills with missing parts will be refused). Leave your coins home.

we went to varadero, stayed at brisas del caribe (resort happened to be owned by cubans, so they let everything slide, hah!)... im pretty sure it was the food on the flight back that got me though... bleh

we brought more $50 bills than $20 and had no problem changing either, anywhere... the conversion rate was .80 at the airport, which was the best we saw anywhere in cuba...

malek
the exchange rate was the same at all the "CADECA" outlets (govt owned) but changed every day and varied from 1.24 to 1.26 C$ for 1 bezo.

Don't change your money at the hotel, you'll get ripped off, at about +10% more than at the CADECA.

can someone explain this to me....

why in good gods name am I not getting any offseason prices for Cuba like everyone has been telling me

I've looked at over 4 sites all recommended so far and I get pretty much the same result...

$826 for 1 week / all inclusive / Hotel Villa Cuba 4 star @ Varadero

or the other one i'm looking into

$846 for 1 week / all inclusive / Playa Varadero 1920 4 star @ Varadero

are these prices too high? I have a lot of people telling me they are..but this is stupid as hell cause I can't find anything cheaper...and yet i'm hearing people say it should be much cheaper :whip:

if someone is bored and really wants to help me find a good deal :

there is 4 of us
we'd like to leave July 1-7
we want a 4 star resort in Varadero
1 week etc..all the good stuff
anything less then the above prices would be great -_-
