If Oil is going to remain high and Russia continues with its debt repayment policy as suggested then its going to be a force once again. Sure its got problems but it has massive resources.
Russia collapsed because of $10 oil. Who believes that cheap oil is coming back? If so why is the USA so heavily investing in the middle east and Caspian sea etc etc etc.
Ya inflation in Russia is about 12%/year. Banks interest rate is 13%. Plus Sberbank heavily controls RUB/USD ratio. Would you want to keep this currency? Probably not, unless you are a citizen of Russia and expect to buy something in the near future.
Even if Russia will start trading oil for rubles the only people who is going to enjoy this most 'at begining' are Russian people and its neighbouring countries because buying power of a ruble would double.
But given with time; this step if implemented will only do good to to the country, its economy and position. |

Purple, the only reason you support this, is because it will hurt the U.S. So, you dont care who it is, as long as the U.S is affected.
Is it just me or the whole world economy, with the Euro being up is because of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thats what really hurting the U.S dollar. The rest of the European nations are enjoying all of this because its the U.S that has to do all the work. The U.S dollar will get stronger in the years to come and Euro will fall. But..since we are gonna be in this war for a long time, then they will enjoy for a longer time too. |

By the way Venezuela, Cuba and other Latin American countries has alread signed an agreement to buy oil from Venezuela in return for their local currency. Evading the need for USD there too.

This might be a little off topic, but I would like to get some things cleared up about some of russia's oil companies.
Baikal was bought by Rosneft, which is the state-owned oil company?
I also heard there are plans to merge Rosneft with Gazprom, which is state-owned as well?
Is Lukoil privately owned? |

Um, the low US dollar is only helping the US economy, while the EU economy is currently so screwed because the Euro is too strong. |

I remember when I used to live in Albania, we used to turn anything into dollar, and thats how we benefited the most. Now the dollar is in Europe, nobody will accept it, and thats why the dollar isnt strong worldwide, because of the war..thats what I wanted to state. Meanwhile, Europeans are strugling with thier economy because of all the high prices, and we thought in the U.S the gas was alot, in Europe is even more. |

I won't get gas from them anyway. They are popping up everywhere in NJ. There are 5 of them alone, in ONE rest stop on the Garden State Parkway. They are buying up Mobil gas stations (Don't think they bought out the company, though), and I know they bought out getty.
I'd buy from the apartheid-supporting sunoco, before buying from Lukoil. |
