Sorry for my odd phrasing in previous posts. That might have confused you since you don't quite get what I was asking.

Is it pertinent that we have a NYTA mod before any improvements can be made around here? If we are to believe that NYTA is a collective work in progress, how come we couldn't better this subforum ourselves? Have you guys tried to shape this place up with various other topics/events/meetings?

Honestly... I think NYTA is already a great place that keeps things real. Once in a while there's a snowboarding trip or a movie screening meetup. We always meet up at music events and then chat with each other about our nights. Those are just a few examples of why we're so composed and up-to-date with one another. You get what I'm saying?

i think one of the main reasons why we are advocating an active mod is our above "stickies" just looks like it was thrown up there. Maybe I'm just a bit of a neat freak but I think as organized as a local forum you say we are, it's clearly not reflected in our "main" (sticky) topics. There is only a few who facilitate meet ups and they do a good job in their threads. But those who are reluctant to click on a thread that's been created by someone who they don't know, ultimately end up skipping/missing the opportunity to participate in it. It's the fact of society, it's hard to break through social barriers and the internet/nyta should atleast make it semi-comfortable for people to join in. An active mod would deem a certain thread important enough to place it at the top would then be advocating this thread, this meetup, for all to participate in. Sort of act as a leader to those timid to participate in.

Like I said earlier, I'm not going to push people participate in meetups and events, but making a topic worthy of residing in our sticky section, just might infact give it much more visibility.

If you look at New York as a whole, this city is undoubtedly one of the largest party cities not to mention the amount of tourist traffic we receive. I used the analogy in another thread that the current look and feel of NYTA reminds me of an old subway train sprayed with graffitti. With that in mind, a new mod would clean things up, make things more modern, organize and direct our section as an evolving community who all participate in this section through the common bond of music. We can help people create those identities, become real people online and in real life. It happens already, people attend meetups, just some are too timid to do so. I think a mod would represent to that timid person as someone who they could reach out to, someone they could look up to and help ease their way into this community.
