This will be just a partial review. I know I had said this before when Ferry was there but the energy at Amp was insane, I had never seen it like that it there before. It was sold out so it was packed beyond belief, no walking room. But that didnt stop people from enjoying themselves.
He went on surprisingly early around 11:50. Kai opened for him, and played a nice house set including:
This is Not Miami (love this one)
some newer remix of Mr Roboto
The tracks I remember from Tiesto(for now) in no particular order are:
Karen Overton - Your Loving Arms (club mix) hawtttt
Tiesto - Loves Comes Again
Push - Strange World
Late Night Alumni - Empty Streets
Helsinki Scorchin (I think both M.O.R.P.H remix and another remix at 2 different times ?? )
Leama & Moor - Everything Matters (Matthew Dekay Remix)
Ahmet Ertenu - Why
Ronski Speed w/ S&T - Incognition
Traffic
Simon Paterson - F16 (? remix)
Marcel Woods - Advanced
I cant remember right now what else!!! I took some good pics so I will post them. ;)
and as always good to be with Amber and Terry, Paul and Ali, Suzy and Bri, Matt, Frederico (thank you again!!), Dustin and his gf, Jaime, AJ, and of course my Dutchie ;) |

He was originally supposed to go on before Kai, but that ended up changing to allow Tiesto to go on earlier. |

I am assuming you missed out on Tiesto's last visit to Amps. I was least surprised by the crowd or the energy levels. Here is what i had written in the Tiesto Roll-Call thread:
| quote: | Tiesto's last show was packed to a needle. Which means not much room for any kind of "gyrations". And very little room for any movement.
The environment is terrific and Tampa crowd is one of the most lively and energetic |
The only difference this time around was there were far less dutch T-Shirts in the crowd (there was a dutch flag though) and no one was allowed on the main-stage where Tiesto was spinning.
I must've lost my following of the music at some point cos i can't remember "Suburban Train" being played. Also, he had dropped "Lethal Industry" somewhere in between and ended with "Traffic". I was hoping that he would play "A Tear In The Open" (My favorite Tiesto track) but that was more like hoping against hope.
I didn't know that the young DJ who opened for Tiesto was Kai. He was good - he started with a kick-ass base track and got the crowd into an early groove. I can't identify any of his tracks except "This is not XXXX" but he overplayed himself to a point that it started to get itrritating since the crowd was waiting anxiously for Tiesto.
I was in early (around 9:00) and it was a blast from around 9:30-10:00 onwards. I had expected Tiesto to be on stage early. By the time he was done (2:20 around), i was too tired to bother him with "One/Once more" or "Tiesto-Tiesto" chant.
Too tired to write more.
Added Later:
There was this funny incident though where Kai popped out a bottle of Champagne and ended up with Champagne on Tiesto's set/CDJs. Luckily, it didn't seem to have affected the CDJs - Tiesto was seen wiping it all off in the middle of the set. |

It gets better. That hacked off Tiesto. He had been smiling and bouncing around when he started, but the smile disappeared after that. But what really pissed him off was when some guy from the Amp (the African-American who does Neon Man?) tried to one-up Kai with an encore. Tiesto waived him off with that "Don't!" look, but when Tiesto turned around, the guy came back and did it anyways. I couldn't see who from where I was standing, but Tiesto was giving someone an earful. From then on, Tiesto was all business. No smile, no reaction from the crowd, just do his set & go. He even stopped at 2:30 when he could've gone on til 3 easily. Tiesto needs to lighten up, but at the same time, the Amp needs to stop the theatrics. |

| no one has mentioned the $200 admission for those who didn't buy pre- sale. $200 was general admission, not VIP. it's sickening that they claimed it was " sold out " but if you were willing to pay $200 you could get in. his set was average (at best) in my opinion. also tiesto ending his set so abruptly with no encore was very dick (even if he was pissed) |

| It was ok. I did not care for the opener/closer Kai. His song selection was blah, his mixing was sub par at best. As far as Tiesto goes...I give him a B- for his performance. 1st hour was mellow and on the housey side. I knew the set was going to progress but for me it wasnt happening soon enough as time seemed like it was standing still. Towards the tail end of the 1st hour and into the 2nd hour he ventured into the more melodic stuff which was the part of the set i enjoyed most. Soon after he mixed in a few techno sounding tracks which the crowd seemed to really enjoy and from there into Traffic. Then he decideds to call it quits with 30 minutes left and just waves and walks off. No encore, nothing. Instead, here you go trance fans how about some more poorly mixed warm up music from Kai. Thanks a freakin lot Tiesto. Thats my cue to leave. Lets be realistic, how much energy would it have taken him to wait for the crowd to stop screaming his name and simply press play on the cd player 1 or 2 more times? That was a very weak ending to a mediocore performance at best. |
