is james holden uncomfortable playing in the usa?? (pg. 2)

His four-hour set here in Seattle a few weeks back tore the roof on the place, and quite a few people who attended said it was one of the best sets they've heard from a DJ in a while.

I don't think you're doing the right thing by being ignorant in this situation. While there are quite a few MP3 sets of his floating around the internet, they do not account for all of his sets he's played in countries other than Europe and it's highly likely that, on many of those non-MP3 sets, he didn't spin a good set. It's also likely that that set was a one-off. Simply because he had a poor set in Chicago doesn't mean he had poor sets all over the US.

And I hate to get involved in off-topic , but...

Maybe.

Wrong, America's scene is definitely hot. You just have to get past the "Big Name DJ" part of it. Most local scenes have fantastic local DJs that kick the out of the international headliners when they open for them.

Please, stop being ignorant.

I saw him back in October (in LA) and he in rocked the place. Couldve been cause I shook his hand and some of my talent rubbed off on him. Who knows.

Let me guess, youre a local dj??

To be quite honest I believe talent in this is directly correlated with success. Meaning, the most people have heard of James Holden, because hes more or less the best at what he does. He's the most accessible and musically interesting at the same time. Sure, you may think some technical whiz is amazing. But to me the best djs are people like Carl Cox and James Holden because they can ing rock a party while still making good music. Also meaning if you were any good, you wouldnt be sitting on your ass is Seattle or wherever the youre from. Youd have been discovered already.

Anyways there are definitely talented house djs in Chicago. The problem is that the scene is not hot. The scene ing sucks. The scene includes the clothes, the dancing, the overall aura of the ing party. Local house djs play here are this rathole hole in wall bars. Youre telling me thats hot? Gimme a break.

Which is my original complaint. If I was James Holden, I wouldnt be enjoying myself. The actual party in Chicago was ing terrible and he didn't seem that into it. You tell me, if you were him, would you be more interested in spinning for 20000 screaming fans or 2000 people who are just talking to each other anyway?

Perhaps it's better in NYC or Miami, I sure hope so. If it is, let me know.

BTW, a lol or smiley face in any sort of political debate makes you the loser. Loser.

Well then obviously we have different perspectives. You're also making false assumptions. There are few local Seattle DJs who are of "technical whiz" status, but most spin simply from one track into the next. And yet, with their track selection, they always get the entire crowd moving more than the international headliners. In fact in relation to your post, when Carl Cox was here last, they loved the local opener's set far more than Carl's.

If you think that "talent in this is directly correlated with success" then you most likely (do correct me if I'm wrong) have no background in music other than being a fan. If you actually did something other than go to the club, get drunk, and dance, then you'd see how dumb of a statement that is.

Obviously the Seattle scene differs from Chicago's scene. And don't go including clothes as part of a scene. EDM represents music from all aspects of life, and that includes people with different clothing preferences wearing whatever the they want.

You're supposed to go for the music. Not because the club looks cool, or the people look cool, but you enjoy the music. Don't sit back and tell me your "scene" is being wrecked when you don't even know what a scene is supposed to be about. It's uptight s like yourself who demand a certain style of appearance while out clubbing that are ruining the core of the music.

Of course I'd rather spin for screaming fans.

Don't lecture me on how to hold a debate as you obviously need to be educated on how to do so. A debate is when you discuss opposing points, not call a person you disagree with a loser.

And I think Rob was right. Your welcome in MD has worn thin, just like it has at your local forum with that "incident." ;) <---- omg a smiley

No. Our style of clubbing blows. All my friends from Europe noticed the difference right away. They felt uncomfortable - I'm talking about clubbing, not raves.

My friend went to London and waited in a 3 block long line to see Sasha at a club, can you ever imagine something like happening in the US?

Its getting better, but its not a trance scene at all.

I was referring to the EDM scene in general, not just Trance.

No.

but on topic, I agree with you on the fact that it's dangerous to book techno artists here. At my local club we've never had anyone as straight tech as Liebing or Hawtin ever. I think the glitchiest we've ever had was Lee Burridge.
