Nic Fanciulli@Avalon Review

I got there pretty early, around 11 pm so i had to listen to the warmup djs spin for a while. THey are absolutely horrible!!!!!!!!! First one of them can't even beatmatch. Second they play the cheesiest ever. Third they were playing peak time songs right before the main event djs were going to play. What was up with that?

Paul Woolford surprised me today as i've never even heard of him until this gig. He played alot of the electro house stuff. Some of it was quite odd but overall he was pretty good.

There was plenty of space to move around on the dancefloor until Fanciulli came on around 2 am. The floor got twice as dense as nic proceeded to rock it. He was very fast paced and did a ton of cuts. I recognized a few the songs that were played when JZ came with sasha but i don't know the ids. THen he dropped this one dope ass track with a huge bassline. Does anyone know the ID? I only stayed till 3 am cuz my friend was too tired. So i missed Paolo. Someone else can fill in for me

Oh and it was good to meet Clovis. i was the asian dood in the black polo shirt. It pretty odd to have mutual friends and finally nice to meet someone off this board.

let me just start out by saying that i had one of the funnest nights i've ever had at avalon last night! drew, thank you so much for the in and getting me up on stage! meant a lot and it was so cool to watch those guys do their magic behind the decks.

i drive at break neck speeds to get to avalon last night right at 10 just to be the first one in line b/c they had a show before hand. i debated going back to my car but knew that people would start getting there eventually. the 2 tigos and their friends showed up and then the rest of the darkside crew (including bjorn and thrax ) begin to trickle in. stand in line for a good hour but it was all good, had fun talking with everyone and building up the excitement for NIC!

the place was pretty sparse for about an hour or so but then the place started filling up but not too bad. plenty of room to dance and no washers! that was very nice. a really great crowd there and the people were really chill. john and justin warm the crowd up and then paul gets on the decks like around 12:30 or so. like one of his first tracks was a track that nic has dropped everytime i have seen him, can't id it but it's male vocals and some of the words are ........i'm a walking disaster...... anyways, i was like huh? but it's all good, nic had plenty of great tracks to drop and he did just that! paul was good but i was just waiting for nic to get behind the decks.

not sure the time he showed up but we were on stage hanging out when he gets there and he was so gracious, greeting everyone and taking time to talk to people. i brought my cd that i got from his and zabs tag team down in miami and asked him to sign it, and of course i don't have a pen so were like asking everyone, you got a pen? anyways found one later in the night and he drew a little cartoon face on it and signed it. i also gave him a pic i had of him in miami and he was showing people and then put it in his case. i actually got to have a conversation with him about the cd and zabs and miami and he said that he and james are talking about touring together and of course they will be back in our fine city. he was so nice and it was so great to talk to him, being one of my favorite djs, i was just in awe i guess. i love his sets more and more each time i see him! he had the crowd dancing up a frenzy and of course i was dancing my ass off! very fun, solid set, gonna have to wait for the others to id tracks.

it was such a fun party and i had a blast hanging out with clovis, tigo, bunny (thanks for putting up with my silly girl chatter ) bas, thrax, bjorn and his girl, drew, and i finally got to meet PIG, not so scarey in person :) and desiree was there for a bit.

then paolo gets on the decks and man what a way to end the night! he was funky and electroy and every kinda sound i love to hear. i think i danced even more to his set, if that's possible. those 3 guys were so great and their sets were amazing. such a great night and i'm so glad i went! funny, i decided to drink wine the whole night since i had been drinking it earlier at the renissance fair and i have to say that i got pretty silly drunk! it's all good, b/c once they stopped serving i was able to recover. they cut paolo off at 6 am which was too bad b/c i was still aching for more.

the coolest moment for me was when nic was collecting his things and getting ready to head out and started telling people bye and he came up to me and hugged me !!!!!

yes, i know, i'm a silly girl with a silly crush but that was my rock star moment and i thought it was pretty f-ing cool. but i also admire his talent and that was just icing on the cake.

funny, after the big thread on issues with avalon i had like the best night there! it really does boil down to the different crowds that attend different djs! definitely a great crowd last night. had hopped to run into liverpolken but never found him, if he was there. so i said my goodbyes, thanks bas and bunny for walking me to my car, and then grabbed my swim suit and headed over to my friends place to jump in the hot tub and watch the sun come up, kinda, to finish out my night! very nice way to end a very good night.

If I wasnt half dead right now from only 3 hours of sleep I'd contemplate writing a long review. All I know right now is that it was ing sick. I knew it was gonna be...but damn...every track was great...

Woolford owned, Nico owned, Paolo killed it to close. Paolo played A Bit Patchy (Prydz Mix), that Jet Lag Slave edit, his mix of Aftermath (with a vocal accapella), Bookashade - Nightfalls, and a bunch of other known I cant remember. Me and bas went nuts backstage during A Bit Patchy...!!!!

theres one track with a huge rolling bassline that Nic dropped within the first hour. Ican't really describe it much more DAMMIT.

male to female ratio was alot more even compared to say the sasha and zabs night

Hey guys....I showed up about 5:15-5:30am. My girlfriends and I were working in downtown for Xeniis and we're like, " this, let's go to Avalon!" Got in and showed one of my girlfriends the premises, she never been there, so I was doing the "grand tour". I got on stage and Bas turns around and was like, "HEY!" It was awesome to see peeps who know me!!! I aslo recall meeting Clovis as well?????? And Gypsy girl rocking out, you were having a blast girl! I took this energy pill (AND YES IT WAS AN ENERGY PILL, BUT I FELT WIRED!!!) so I wanted to release a bit more energy after we were all done at Xeniis, so Avaland was the place. It wasn't packed too much as well, seemed like it was a bit of a mellow night, but then again, I arrived at 5:30am.

As I walking out, one guy approached me and said to me, "you were in Miami weren't you? I was the one guy with the camera at such and such place........" I was like, "huh...uh yeah!!" lol I won't be there next weekend for after hours (yes I know most of you don't like the after hour events, but I do cause' I have fun!) I'm heading to Vegas to dance at ICE for Scribble and Jonathan Peters.....but as Arnold says, "Ill be back!" heeehee, glad to run into a few TA for the short time I was there, nice meeting you Clovis but I think we're going to have to reintroduce ourselves cause' I draw a blank remembering your face, sorry. :conf:

Later peeps, when you guys heading down to SD for LOVE Fridays??? We got a wicked line up in June.

John Do and Justin are two of the best opening DJ's in Los Angeles. WTF. I thought they abosolutely were fantastic just like always.

Paul and Nic were great. I could only stay for like 45 min of Mojo cause my feet were killing me. I met some new friends from San Jose and proceeded to get trashed.
Great night.

Nic is the wonderboy of house music!

Then it ing rained all over my car ftl.

Insane night. Woolford definetly had me dancing the most, I don't remember if he played his mix of Du What U Du, but I don't remember much from that night. Bjorn got me an Adios which I proceeded to spill all over the floor, then my buddy Ramy bought me a vodka cranberry that got half drunk and again fell on the floor. Those damn Avalon cups are so slippery. They really need to do soemthing about that...

Nic rocked it proper, but i've seen him several times before so I pretty much knew what I was getting into. Paolo Mojo....god damn, he made the night for me. Lifelike & Menace - Discopolis with the Kings of Tomorrow acapella over it...wooooofhhh hot track right there!

So yeah I remember most of Paolo's set but not alot of Nic's and Wooly's...I think I was chain smoking like mad outside lol. So far that has to be one of my favorite nights out at Avalon.

edit
And to vhx, are you sure you were at Avalon? At no time did I hear John and Justin trainwreck OR play any "banging" house. Sooo...get your facts straight.
