rabbitjoker & Durafei's big April '06 SF party adventure (G&D and Carl Cox)

I was in San Francisco on business from April 25 2006 to April 29 2006.
Durafei (one of our favorite TOTA's who moved to SF to work for Google) and I met up to do a little social and musical tourism.
We found ourselves at Ruby Skye (http://www.rubyskye.com/) on Thursday April 28 for Gabriel & Dresden ($15) and Friday April 29 for Carl Cox ($20).
Ruby Skye is a great club. It is an old theatre (60+ years old), capacity maybe 1000, with the original balcony still intact (great if one wants an aerial view of the party going on down below). Good times were had at both parties.
The biggest differences between TO and SF parties:
1. No crowding, lots of AC.
2. Party is over around 3:30 (headliner goes on at midnight)
3. Sobriety (not one over drunk or high person was observed either night)
The differences made for a unique and enjoyable experience.
G&D party was a CD launch - so it was G&D all night long (10 pm until 3:30 am). We arrived about 11 pm and danced it out until 3 or so. The place closed at 3:30 - so we didn't miss much. Very fine set - this duo is -very- talented.
Carl Cox had a larger draw than G&D. We arrived at 10:30 and some DJ named "Frenchie la French" opened up with a seemingly random track selection. Not a big deal however since Carl came on at midnight. The Carl was his usual best - belting out "Come on!" over the PA and delivering a total ass-shakin' set. THE TECH IS GOOD.
It was awesome to spend two action packed evenings with Durafei. Thanks for the hospitality friend. :)

and man, if only headliners would go on here so I could be home earlier and get more sleep.. if that isn't a true sign I am getting old, I don't know what is :p |

Dude, it was fun partying with you here in TO! I'm moving back to San Jose next month, I'll have to check out Ruby Skye (I was in the door once, but left because my friend didn't have proper ID and couldn't get in -read- he was underage) |
