Exactly, and unfortunately that's the way things USED to be up until around 8 or 10 years ago. When street racing was still at it's underground status, the only ones out were the ones that actually had something worthy of racing and it was kept on the abandonned/industrial streets. I totally agree with this law because it has gotten way out of control to the point where young guys now could careless where or when they are racing, or who they are indangering. Where industrial roads at 2-3 in the morning would be the location of choice, you can find them at any street corner, at all times of the day...not to mention usually in their mom's Sunfire with headlight covers and annoying exhaust tips (nowhere near what the tuner scene is about). Combine this with their arrogant attitude, disrespect for other peoples safety and usually not one shred of driving ability, has left enough people dead for it to go on unchecked.
I used to street race when I was younger, and I'll be the first to say we were wrong for doing it, and I've seen my fair share of carnage because of it. Going to the track does take away from the thrill of it, but at least everyone gets home at the end of the night. |

wow nice vids... anyways this bill won't serve its purpose because there tons of place to street race in the GTA and the cops can't be everywhere at once. That race track thing won't work either. its better to educating these spoiled kids the dangers of it all.
Fast and the Ferious 3 is coming out, and its all about drifting. These kids better not start drifting, or else they'll up there cars and everything around them..lol:eyespop: |

I dont agree with this bill for a few reasons.
1. it takes away from my livelyhood. how can I hustle people with ma street racin skillzzzz
They wont build tracks(drag strips) closer to the city. closest is cayuga and its about an hour and half away. And then when you actually go their, they have MTO and the police set up road blocks on the way in to try and give you bs tickets for nothing. (So that just deters you from going next time).
The amt of people that die from organized street racing is..ZERO! NONE! The amt that die from that random light encounter is a few *usually* a year and its not from the typical "street racers" type of cars. Its usually kids in their parents cars being completely stupid.
People have been dropping the hammer in their cars for years and this bill wont stop that. People will still do it. The police cant always be there to stop it.
I think driving like an idiot on the street is dumb but lettin the car rip every so often in the right place isnt a big deal.
But you always have dumbs who dont know when not to drive fast and that s it all up for everyone else. Some douche bag in a jetta weaves through traffic and the stereotype is created and then people in similar cars get harrassed by the Police.... but I see street racing among "normal" cars ALL DAY LONG everyday!
although it hasnt been THAT bad in the last couple years as the media hype had died down a bit and the cops were getting in for clogging up the court system with bs tickets.
although this past WINTEr....yes winter they were doing news reporting on street racing..and now this..This summer is gonna be ty(most likely) in terms of bs tickets.
obviously you cant account for everything on the street but with some experience you are usually alright. its the inexperienced that run into trouble.
Ive never been harrassed by the popo and I drive a stereotypical car. |
this has obviously touched a nerve. See how it feels when the government passes a law that you cant stand because it interferes with how you like to live?
welcome to the club! |

I agree with this law in regards to public streets. However, there should be private strips set up and designated areas for these events. And police should NOT use this as an advantage to go after kids in their cars. That defeats the whole purpose.
Politicians should have thought about this before introducing this bill. As for the NIMBYs, its called expropriation. We need to get back into that habit because the way things are going now, nothing will ever get built ever again unless its a condo.
Perhaps if people in this country offered more forward thinking instead of just banning everything left right and centre wed actually get somewhere. |

Didnt touch a nerve really. I just dont agree with it. Its not actually gonna effect my livelyhood ;)
Why should rippin your car be the same as a DUI?
Porsches race too... and from a roll too. its the highway , what else they supposed to do ;) |

like seriously
when people race it shouldnt be considered as a criminal offense
if someone rips on the left side/emergency lane on the highway going 180 and someone else following behind him then ing charge them with evrything because they deserve it
but when me and my buddy try to race for a few seconds on the highway to see how his new car goes at 4am then i dont see how that is going to affect anything.
Seriously cops are ing s in most cases and they will do anything to make you pay. |

But thats why we need to stop NIMBYism and allow for race tracks. Otherwise this WILL continue law or no law. |
The cost to build a track is quite substnatial...and due to noise, they certainly will be located outside the city...and due to insurance regulations, you can't just "go and race"...there are several requirements (like helmets, waivers, wait times, etc).
half the thrill of racing is that it's an organized illegal street race on some back road that only those "in the know" will find...or it's about just randomly pulling up to some guy on the highway or street and running him. This street racing "culture" will NOT disappear (or even be substantially reduced, IMHO) by the creation of a race track or two. Sure, it will lure some people off of the streets...but the people crashing and killing themselves (or others) are generally NOT the people who'd take it to the track in the first place...it's some jackass kid who doesn't know the first thing about how to properly handle his car.
in any case, racing and related behaviour has already been addressed by various provincial traffic laws (in Ontario and Manitoba, for sure). Every province also has the standard general laws that address speeding, dangerous driving, etc...so is this legislation THAT necessary? Isn't it just an added charge to tack on? Is this going to prevent any racing behaviour? I'm skeptical.
We still don't know what's replacing all the environmental initiatives that are being scrapped left and right...or what's replacing the First Nations agreement...or the "fiscal imbalance...but we've got "get tough on crime" stuff, a 1% GST cut, and now street racing legislation on the way...
The CPC is catering to public opinion instead of adressing addressing real issues. How many people die from street racing each year? it's no more an "epidemic" than gun violence in Toronto...but it sounds fantastic to paranoid voters.
lame. |
