[Jayx1] this law is bogus, its taking away people's freedom to do what they want in their cars, whats next, speed limiters at 100 km/h, bans on car modifications, when will it end?[/Jayx1]

etc....

if they made it mandatory to put a limiter on a car, i would hack it or just rip out whatever they put it. ban modifications wouldn't work either cause they people would lose jobs, major car manufacters would lose money, etc. think of mopar, m-tech, amg, svt, trd, etc. they wouldn't be allowed to sell their parts anymore.
i think the government right now is trying to show that its doing something and that its all going to back fire soon.
btw, any one know of a good track near oakville or mississauga?

Technically, they already have those. Try going faster than 250 in your Ferrari. For other cars, it's a lot less.

That's a safety feature. Stock tires that cars come with can't handle high speeds for extended periods of time without blowing up. So they put the limiter so you dont sue them for selling an unsafe vehicle.

to some extent the law is a decent one. But without remedies to fix the situation instead of just punishments, the law is all but useless.

But you seem upset about it. Now imagine if it DID affect your livlihood. Youd be as upset about this as I am about smoking I'd bet.

Yeah, I'd like to see these idiots try that with the FWD ricers, lol.

I toyed with drifting 2 years ago, and scary as hell. It takes a huge amount of practice to drift right, and it's a small margin of error to lose control. Got new tires now and not going there anymore.

No, not all cars have limiters.

the only thing that is limiting me from going over 230km/h is my engine bouncing off the rev limiter or me swaping to a different geared differential.
swap the diff and i can go faster.
my other car would cut the fuel at 180km/h

I just spit my coffee up . buwhahahahahahhahahaa

some douche tried to drift his supra through an intersection on the weekend and lost it. ALMOST put it into the curb. everyone was laughing at him. Was jokes.

This law shouldnt affect anyones livelyhood..just make it a pain in the ass...and possible big time trouble for some if they decide to drop the hammer(which EVERYONE does). It wont solve the issues.

my car didnt come with a limiter omg civic. and I can get tail happy if id like through a corner ;)

drifting isnt so hard btw, especially with the cars that are set up to drift. its actually harder to do it in a stock car, then those mad tyte jdm ones. Now obviously you need some skill and doing it with others is harder, but its not THAT hard.

Im not upset . I just feel this will do nothing for anyone, where the smoking law will :p

Of course anybody who's serious would already know this...

I agree with the law.
Punk kids who want to race go do it where you're supposed to.

It's not the sport itself I have an issue with, it's the fact that they put other people in danger when they do it.
Might as well have a shooting gallery in the middle of the street.

lol barriespeedway. ya newb.

its an oval track. Not to mention its still far away from the city. They need to build an indoor drag strip in the city(they have them in the US) or use downsview! But they dont really want to reduce this stuff. It generates too much money .

IMO theres a time and a place on the street to do it. Obviously you can never account for everything but if you are as safe as you can be there is usually not a problem. And every kid has been stupid behind the wheel. i dont think they deserve a criminal record for it.

So?
It's maybe an hour and a half away, big deal; it takes longer to get across the damn city!!
omg...it's oval....how boring huh? ;)

I know what you're saying but that doesn't make it right.
Cars can go out of control and when they do, it's now a legitimate weapon.
We certainly don't need to be encouraging it just because they didn't get caught.
That's just re-enforcing their asshat-ism.
One day they WILL make the wrong judgement call and someone will get really hurt or die.
All because there were no corrections in their behaviour.
