yeh but the point being is that he has come good and he's still got a good 5/6 years left of good/great footy. that's how you measure their value - over a sustained period of time.

fair enough but if you look at it from the point of view that deledio, murphy & cooney - the new guys are all alot better than he ever was when he first started... its all relative.

those young guys could go on and be constitent and great for the next 5 yrs.. johnstone imo took far too long and wasted 5-6 yrs.. so comparably at this stage, he is the worse of the lot.

he was actually pretty lucky he didnt get the ass, there were alot of melb supporters questioning that decision for a long time.

Do a table of years in the comp and count how many good years each player has had.

headland is pretty lucky he's not on that list, he looked awesome at brisbane but really hasnt done much at freo..

des headland ftw

yeah, I'd probably say Headland too. He's good, but you wouldn't rank him near the top of good players.

lol how funny that headland is the only one on that list who has won a flag. 2 even.

2003 - Adam Cooney (Western Bulldogs)
2004 - Brett Deledio (Richmond)
2005 - Marc Murphy (Carlton)

It's a shame that Waterhouse doesn't quite count because that would make the decision easy. Goddard or Gardiner would have to be the most disappointing from that lot imho.

waterhouse was decent but not worthy of number 1 pick. he was too injury prone. id say in terms of talent its probably headland. goddard hasnt made a huge impact but his coming good now across half back
(i think).

the late 80's had some horrid picks. alex mcdondald, martin leslie lol, darren gaspar even...cant kick a ball, banick & hutton!

gas-man was a rock late 90's. was on of the leagues premier defenders. thats when richomnd made the horrible mistake of signing him to some ridiculous long-term deal which has left them hamstrung the past few seasons.

Teknoscaper.
Headland was made to look good by an impressive Brisbane midfield.
