Rock Climbing anyone?

Hey all...

I am addicted! I am scared of heights and there is nothing like facing your fears and getting an awesome natural high... what an adrenaline rush!! To conquer the route and get to the top...

I started about a year ago, but I don't nearly go enough, so I still consider myself a beginner.

Yesterday I was a machine... I was fearless.. First time ever! It was awesome.

I am going to try heading outside for some climbs in a few weeks.

Does anyone else climb here? Pointers? Interest?

I tried it for the first time a few weeks ago, and I had a blast!

How expensive is it in Toronto? I went in Kingston, and it was $15 for unlimited hours that day.

I tried it once in high school; would love to do it again though.

I have a membership at a place in Guelph. I cost $13 a day at this place.. called the guelph grotto.

I hear that the places in toronto have the ropes secured into the ground so you can't balay properly... Can anyone confirm this?

But I am sure the rates would be comparable...

In Milton there is a park, can't remember the name, but you can climb outdoors for $4! You need your own equipment tho.

AGAIN< YAY FOR SUMMER!!!

well i'm no expert, they taught us how to "belay" when i've gone before, but there are like pulleys secured to the ground that are used.

That's what I thought... totally sucks.. not the proper way to do it..

I'm pretty sure the Climbing Academy uses the pulley system to the ground.

I climb at Joe Rockhead's and you do belay the proper way.

There are a couple of other places, but I can't confirm how they belay.

I have a friend who goes to Rock Oasis, at the foot of Bathurst, right by the iron railway bridge to Lakeshore.
from what i heard, Something like $25 for everything if you don't have gear. Of course, the most important thing is to have a climbing partner, since it's even less possile to climb alone than to play tennis alone.

Rock Oasis is near my place. I've always wanted to go but never got the chance.

I did see paramedics hauling someone outta there on a strecher last week, lol. Hope nothing too serious happened.

Regardless, i'd like to go sometime

I'm being dragged out this summer for some outdoor adventures - Rock Climbing is one of the suggestions, along with Paintball and Kayaking.

Any suggestions on good spots in the London / Kitchener area would be mucho apreciated!

dragged? You'll have fun. Especially kayaking. rockclimbing = we have sports world here in kitchener which is in and around 20$ for the day i believe but the walls arnt as good as the guelph grotto ones. paintballing is good at flagraiders in cambridge.

and dont worry bout the outdooradventures, ull have a blast.

I've done it a few times. I'm definatly not a pro, and it's not something I'd be interested in getting serious in. But it definatly is a fun, and different activity to try. I've only gone here in Windsor and at a few amusement parks. My brother was really into climbing though...bought a lot of expensive gear and such.
