| After a few hours on those travel sites trying to save money on a hotel + flight package I realized they're full of . I can save more by going to directly to the hotel/airline's site even though they keep telling me I can save big bucks on a package deal. Anyone try Priceline? I'm not sure I want to not know at what hotel they booked me until after I'm committed to stay at the place they pick. |

I'm road tripping mid-June to Vancouver, BC to check out Ferry and Digweed. This is the first time I've gone about booking a hotel myself, and I've come to realize the same thing you have. I was lucky enough to find a hotel directly across from the club. Every site from Priceline to Orbitz to Hotels.com and whatever else I came across either said, "Sorry, there are no rooms available during that time" or were over-priced. However upon going directly to the hotel's website, they showed vacancy and cheaper rates.
I doubt I'll use the travel sites again, but they've managed to get my parents some good deals on occasion so I assume they're good once in a while. |

I use Hotwire and Priceline...
For Priceline I scored a sick hotel in San Fran last year for the Love Parade - ended up getting the room at about 1/3rd the price - it was quite the score :) |

So out of Orbitz, travelocity, priceline, hotwire...which is the best of the lot...
I totally agree with you on the hotels part...but I think for flights, its better to go through this sites... |

| i use mobissimo, which checks lots of places (including orbitz, expedia etc.) there are a few others out there that do the same thing. Usually if the prices look high, i will call the ones that are cheapest directly and get a better price. |

i usually have the best luck with Expedia.com, but i always make sure to check the airlines' site after i find the deal i want because sometimes they end up being cheaper if you buy them straight from the airline instead. best idea is to shop around on as many sites as you can until you find the best deal. |
