Ya i am a member of mychoice.ca as well and gut the latter..
I really donno what is wrong with these people.. why should they ban smoking in smoking rooms/patios etc ...
It's just retarted in my opinion .
And the sad part is that this is gonna effect Quebec as well . Remembering smoking in a subway fastfood in montreal and how enjoyble it was, just making me feel it won't happen again. :whip:
So what is next? Banning smoking on crowded streets during rush hours?...lol hehe .. I don' think it's impossible according to the way they'r cruising it. |

There's an awful lot of whining coming from smokers and bar/restaurant owners on this issue. Most of it needless!
Mychoice has absolutely no respect for the health of employees. They don't have a problem exposing people to the plethora of toxic chemicals found in cigarette smoke. It's acutally hypocritical because if these same people worked in a factory and were exposed to the same chemicals, they'd be lobbying to have them banned or at the very least be provided with protective equipment.
Bar and restaurant owners are overreacting. In the long-term, the smoking ban will have little impact on business. I grew up in Guelph, which was one of the first cities in Ontario to implement a smoking ban. NOT ONE BAR OR RESTAURANT HAS EVER CLOSED DUE TO THE SMOKING BAN!
Bar and restaurant owners who built specialized smoking facilities can bitch all they want. However, anybody who was paying attention knew that a total ban was coming within five years. If you're foolish enough to not pay attention to the regulatory environment that your business operates in, you shouldn't be in business.
You want to smoke? Do it at home! |

Im a non smoking employee at a club. Nobody asked me or anybody i work with about this law. Most people i have spoken to (smokers and non smokers alike) in this industry say that they would rather have a guaranteed job and tips rather than a smoke free workplace. Most people including me are all for the abolishment of smoking but are against the methods being used to acheive it.
And prove to me that not one bar or restaurant has closed because of a ban. I work in the industry and i can tell you that some of my hours have already been affected by the last ban. I can also tell you that nightlife in toronto has changed dramatically in the last 2 years since the original smoking law was in place.
sadly people like you dont seem to have respect for anyone else. Smoking rooms were a decent comprimise. You dont have to enter these rooms if you dont want to yet you still want them banned. I dont get it. |

Wow, is this really our opinion, or did you just read it off an anti-smoking pamphlet.
I hate how smokers, through opinions such as the above, are being completely demonized. Do you even have a clue as to how many of these same chemicals and substances you suck in every day just by walking on the street? Millions of car exhaust pipes, heavy industry, and all sorts of other sources have a great impact on what you intake on a daily basis, smoker or not. This ban, in principle, is just ridiculous. I can't even begin to form a valid point to argue against this, as it angers me so much. All of these non-smoking activists, and people such as the above have such extremely strong (and negative) opinions of smokers, yet not many of their opinions are really well informed. What was so wrong with having designated smoking spaces? One of you made a joke about it, but in all honest, I think you're right, give a few more years I can definitely see this being extended to all outdoor places. I hate the hypocracy of a government that robs me blind through heavy taxation of a habit, made of a sound and adult mind, then takes away a right to exercise that habit. |

I have a lot of friends who are smokers. I was a former smoker. I actually like the way it is now in clubs; there's a designated smoking area and so one has a choice. The only club I tend to get annoyed with is TIL because they don't enforce non-smoking in the dance area.
I really don't think it's fair to prohibit it entirely, and I really don't see why we can't keep things the way they are now. The last time I checked this was a free country, and the Ontario and Quebec government are imposing their views when it is not justified.
I basically stay out of the smoking area, and I'm perfectly fine with that. |

We got a notice at the office about that, as we have a couple of hundred fleet cars managers use at HP. |

Funny, all of the offense taken to my previous post. Yet NONE of you have given any response other than 'I can't believe you're so mean to smokers!'
Here's a question: Why do smokers have such a hard time going outside for the five minutes it takes to smoke a cigarette? Cold? Put a coat on! Raining? Take an umbrella!
I could tolerate smoking rooms, however, why should the waitstaff have to exposed to the CONCENTRATED level of second-hand smoke in smoking rooms? Yes, a number of bars and restaurants post signs that say table service is not available in the smoking room, yet smokers regularly complain about the lack of service and most restaurants have given up on it.
As for the 'It's a free country' argument, since when is smoking a right? I don't see it on the Charter of Rights and Freedoms anywhere. In fact, just the opposite, the government has the right to ban smoking because of the significant public interest in doing so.
I would be much more tolerant of smokers if their noxious cloud would simply surround them. Unfortunately cigarette smoke doesn't behave that way. Why should non-smokers have to leave a restaurant or bar because of the toxic haze?
Finally, to address the fact that their are othe toxins in the air when I go outside. I have recourse against companies that produce them. It's a pretty significant fine if a factory produces a noxious odor outside the premises. Same with airborne pollutants. Would smokers rather be fined heavily for the localized pollution they create. We're just asking you to go outside - it isn't hard! |

Yeah, yesterday somebody was yelling at my dad about that as he was making a delivery (he's a courier), so my dad quite unkindly told the guy to off. It's his OWN vehicle, not company owned. |

| Give me a break! How ridiculous... this damn government is asking people to walk outside and go to a street! Who the do they think they are! Walking? What is this, the middle ages? Are we travelling back in time to the days of Rome, when plebs had to... well maybe they didn't smoke in Ancient Rome, but this new law is clearly going to tick off any hypothetical Anachronistic Roman Smoking League, and that ain't wise. |
