Need laptop help

I got a major laptop problem. It says "windows cannot start because the following file is corrupted or missing"
the file is c_437.nl_
i've tried using the recovery console to copy the file from my windows xp cd to the windows folder but I'm getting "access is denied."
help? |

This is an older, used laptop and I have too much stuff on it to do a reformat. |

Hello mr angel i have consulted the various manuals we have here and spoken with my boss and we have come to this you will need to
pull down pants and insert thumb in ass b/c you are ed!

Well it could be a virus. u can boot the system from CD-ROM. Run anti-virus from a CD and see if ur system is infected.
I dont know if it can be done on a laptop ..but u can try and connect ur HDD to a friend's computer keeping his HDD as Master and urs as Slave. The other computer might detect ur HDD and u might be able to save ur data.

I wasn't able to boot from the anti virus cd...and it took me forever to find where the hard drive was on the laptop. I'd never opened one before. I don't have the cables to hook up the drive to my main computer (this one), let alone know what cables they are...:conf: |

Well you'll need to get an ide port adapter anyhow cause normally the port on laptop hard drives is smaller than ports on hard drives on regular pcs. |
