Wow, you're a real show. You come into my thread calling it stupid, and indirectly called me stupid.
You started the fight from the first post, so you and your denial. | Wow, you really are sensitive. If the thread topic was good, I would tell you that it was good. You begged the question and I answered it so don't get this attitude, you . |

| I think it would be more like Star Wars (even though it happened a long time ago). Totalitarian empire and freedom loving rebels. Oh and don't forget the magic powers and laser swords too. |

Yeah, you got it pretty much right. But Earth did have technology, don't get me wrong. The only thing they didn't have was a cloaking device. Thats is why I say they aren't advanced in technology |
I meant to say it lacked in technology when compared to other planets: pretty much like the Soviet Union lacked in technology when compared to other countries (although they still had an impressive science).

I agree with you about the globalization. Unfortunately some stubborn nations won't go as far as others to create a stable global alliance (US, UK, france, and germany, mainly). |
I wouldn't say they're stubborn, but cautious and realistic. You can't downplay the importance of states overnight, specially if you're a major power. Should there be a new world order, it would be a slow process until we reach this new level.

But capitalism? I would hope that the nations of this world would be wise enough to embrace a form of socialism. Privatization of campanies (Which TNG does touch on, calling it a form of greed) is not the answer in my opinion. I would like to see all companies be strictly regulated by their governments so they can't rape the people (Example: Oil companies). |
Isn't this idea contradictory with globalisation? |

Globalization can be viewed in so many different ways. I see it as an idea for a global economy. I can't see how privatized companies can contribute to a global economy unless they are strictly regulated by some form of government or totally absorbed by a government. Indeed, the "slow and steady" process is a good one. We all know what happens when one switches to a different type of economic system too quickly (Soviet Union). |

| If you look at the Star Trek universe you see that the unification of man begins after first contact with an advanced alien civilization; the Vulcans. I think that would definitely be a humbling experience in real life and would diminish our petty bigotries. Furthermore, if we gained the ability travel to new worlds and the ability o end hunger once in for all (as is the case in the ST universe), I think all of our current squabbles over territory and other resources would disappear. What’s the point of arguing over a piece of land here on earth when you could travel to thousands of different worlds across the galaxy? Immigration issues would become a non-issue. |

that's rich coming from an American whose administration love poking their noses into the worlds business and thinking that they are the worlds police force.
It's a fact that since the end of WW2 that the UK has been giving up its empire, for example giving back Hong Kong etc
The falklands are a complety seperate issue, the UK protected it's citizens who live on the islands when Argentina invaded them.
IMO yes the falklands belong to Argentina but whilst they are part of the UK and has UK citizens living there by thier choice then the UK will defend its nationals living there. |

I agree, but I wouldn't want to be a country that practices Isolationism. It's selfish, in my opinion. We didn't help in world war II until our asses got blazed by the japanese. It's not right, I think the war could have ended the war in europe sooner if we stepped in with England and france.
One thing I don't like about the USA is that we pick and choose who we want to help. Go to Iraq, but not Sudan, Republic of Congo, or Liberia.
BUT Political sanctions are OK, they stop the killing! <-- Sarcasm. |

Nah mate, Babylon 5 is great, but it has nothing on Firefly and Farscape.
And yeah i also think we're in for an apocolyptic future :) |

you cant possibly compare firefly & b5. B5 managed to finish its epic story arc, whereas firefly barely got started. yes, it was awesome, but it still doesnt rate above buffy, if only due to its length :(
never really got into farscape. sometimes im not very imaginative :p
but thank you didnt say stargate. what a pile of that show was.
oh, the other you might be interested in is the serial remake of battlestar galactica. i was pretty skeptical, but very pleasantly surprised. bit hollywoodish in parts, but still pretty cool. im a sucker for any scifi/fantasy that has a well thought out plotline that has (or appears to have) a definitive conclusion :) |

| The first season of Farscape is , Seasons two and three are mindblowing. The dialog is as funny and clever as Firefly, and the plot and character development are as intricate and involving if not more than Firefly. Highly recommend you give it another try :) |
