Putting Star Trek: The Next Generation To The Test.
View this Thread in Original format

If any of you has watched Star Trek: The Next Generation, you know that the show is in the future. In this future, Earth is shown as a peaaceful place, much more advanced in social standards than other worlds, which are more advanced in technology. Earth has no form of currency, it is viewed as one planet, rather than countries. In the show, they constantly recall historical events in their past, which is our future. Like the irish unification of 2020-something, and other things along that line.

My Question to you all:

Would it be wise to base our future on this show?

I know this is kind of nerdy, but I grew up without cable, and the only thing that was on back in the day was star trek: TNG, so cut me a break. :p

I thinks this thread is pretty stupid to respond to, but I am not surprised due to the thread starter.

No, we should base our future on Aliens.

What an ignorant statement right there. I've made some pretty valid points in some threads. It's not my fault I've had to criticize some of your opinions.

Well, there you have it, folks. This is a great example of human stupidity. :)

EDIT: I'm not talking about the alien part. I am talking about the future of human society, and the state of this world.

I have nothing against criticism. In fact its good when its beneficial, but sad when someone less intelligent than you corrects you.

Yes, my point of Aliens was that there will still be greed and corruption and wars fought unnecessarily that is the way humans are and always will be.

I don't think so.

First of all, from what I gathered, Earth seems to live in a global communist utopia: socially perfect, without any sort of consumism whatsoever (that's what I understand by "no currency") and lacking in technology (which does make sense, actually).

Guessing about the future is like a blindman trying to stab a cat - you can't know precisely what will happen. However, if I were to base our future on anything, I'd base it on the modern scenario: nations might play a lesser impotant role because of globalisation, but they won't just cease to exist that quickly; I don't think capitalism will vanish as it is, in fact, a major factor in Democratic peace theory, where capitalism and globalisation might make countries too dependent of one another, so they cannot fight; finally, I don't believe in absolute peace either - no matter how desirable everlasting peace is, I wonder about the importance of destroying in order to re-build :)

Who do you think you are? Modesty obviously doesn't have a place in you're vocabulary. You're actually the first prick to ever say that to me in the PDD. You're also the first person whom I will show no respect to.

Yeah, you got it pretty much right. But Earth did have technology, don't get me wrong. The only thing they didn't have was a cloaking device. Thats is why I say they aren't advanced in technology

I agree with you about the globalization. Unfortunately some stubborn nations won't go as far as others to create a stable global alliance (US, UK, france, and germany, mainly).

But capitalism? I would hope that the nations of this world would be wise enough to embrace a form of socialism. Privatization of campanies (Which TNG does touch on, calling it a form of greed) is not the answer in my opinion. I would like to see all companies be strictly regulated by their governments so they can't rape the people (Example: Oil companies).

No, no we shouldn't, unless by "Irish (re)unification" they mean Britain invaded the Republic and rightfully brought it back under the wing of the Union Jack, thereby unifying, by default, the Irish isle...?

Woah, what union, The UK? That's a little harsh.

As far as I'm concerned England is far too controlling with it's land, and territories. They love taking things that aren't rightfully theirs in the first place. Take the falkland and the south sandwich islands, for instance. The falkland wars. Imperialism ed the whole world in the ass, and most countries did the right thing and offered them independence. Unless you look at the US, and find a territory that wants to become the 51st state, Puerto Rico. Kind of wierd, in my opinion, they could become a lucrative, self-sustaining country if they really wanted to.

Well, I do apologise on behalf of my country for protecting British territory, and people who wanted to remain part of British territory, against the Argie bastards

I take it you've never whitnessed the "hand of god"? If you had you would have no sympathy for the dirty s

I am metalgearsolid-who are you? I don't have your respect? Now, my life is over.

Just when did you think I was being offensive or aggresive? How do you even know that I was implying you?

I have no fight with you and I don't want one so don't start.

Wow, you're a real show. You come into my thread calling it stupid, and indirectly called me stupid.

You started the fight from the first post, so you and your denial.
