Good Records or Good DJ ?? (pg. 2)

A regular crowed cannot apreciate good mixing but almost anyone can apreciate a good track selection.
You got to have both though.
Mixing skills will improve over time but some people just have poor judgment/tracks.

i can deal with bad mixing as long as the tracks are good. i hate the geeks that take forever to get up and dance but spend the majority of the night trainspotting for bad transitions the dj makes.. those types are just picking cos they wish they were up there djing.
dj_kane
those are the geeks that think that if a transition is 100% pure then the dj is . ing idiots should get a hobby!

Being too young to go to any decent clubs i havnt heard any djs who have a good track selection and/or good mixing skills in a club.
I find this to be a real mood kill when a song is very crapy mixed into another song. There is just nothing going for it at all.

well, you can only have 2 if you have a 2 channel mixer. heh

but with more high-end mixers, you get 3-4, and sometimes even 6 channels. techno, the harder variants, are traditionally played using 3 turntables, generally keeping 3 tracks at the same time as much as possible. carl cox generally has at least 2 playing at the same time, most of the time.

anyways, with trance its not hard to do. same method as with techno. the only difference is it will probably sound like . trance isn't made for this sort of mixing.

i think "ok" mixing is not a big problem...but consistent mixes would kill the energy.

My favorite sets ever are full of trainwrecks. Doesn't matter. you just have to endure them for a few seconds.

If they can play better tracks with better mixing, then they should be up there.

Beatmatching is not rocket science. Is it that hard to nudge the platter or twist the spindle to keep the beats flowing smoothly? No. So I dont see what the big deal is.

not to mention, fine. he is a big name. he has great records.

he has been spinning for 10 years, gets all his records for free, and gets paid to do this. this is his JOB. in other words, if i can mix better than he can, he is seriously lacking. i have things to do in life, like school, work, etc. he gets to do nothing but SPIN. so his mixing HAS to be better than mine. and his records should always be ing UNKNOWN gems, instead of the same recycled bull all the time.

ok, so that was a bit of a rant. but you guys get the picture. :p

Music is most important, but for a truly great DJ, it absolutely must be both. No exceptions.

There is simply no reason why any good DJ should have poor mixing skills, particularly those who are booked to spin all around the world. If your DJ is going to make every transition go CLAK CLAK CLAK CLAK, then you may as well have some up in the booth with traktor or some . It would save a lot of money.

Lets face it, just about anyone can find, select, and play good records if they put enough effort and thought into getting them. But it takes a great DJ to take these records and craft them into something unique and special through superior technical execution. Can't have one without the other, really.
