It was sick, and ended like this:
France won the group on 9 points after beating all three opponents in the group. Serbia & Montenegro, Germany and Portugal all ended up on 3 points after 3 games had been played. But Serbia & Montenegro made it through.
Serbia & Montenegro lost to Germany in the first game, the game ended 0-1 to the Germans. France won over Portugal with the same result, and after everyone had played one game, Germany and France was ahead in this group with 3 points each, while Serbia & Montenegro and hosts Portugal didn't earn any.
France played against Germany in the next game, and they crushed the germans with 3-0. Portugal was facing Serbia & Montenegro in the other group game, which Serbia & Montenegro won with 0-2. Serbia & Montenegro had 3 points, just like their biggest threat Germany, and Portugal had none points as hosts. France practicly made it through to the next round.
The last two games in the group was played now, Germany was playing against Portugal while Serbia & Montenegro was facing the group winners France.
France won the game against Serbia & Montenegro with 2-0, the game ended a little earlier than the other one, Serbia & Montenegro had to hope on a goal by Portugal against Germany to get through. Germany just had to stick to their draw to make it through. But Portugal scored a goal, and won the game with 1-0. The goal came in the 94th minute.

France had won the group by winning their 3 games, Serbia & Montenegro had 3 points and 2-3 in goals. Germany had three points themselves, but only 1-4 in goals, and finally, Portugal had 3 points and 1-3 in goals.
So, France finished first, Serbia & Montenegro second, Germany third and Portugal as hosts, last.
This was sick. |

If the game between Ecuador ends up being a draw though, it will be a bizarre scenario in which Ecuador will finish in 1st place, and Germany, 2nd. |
