not when you are looking to get booked to play again its not...
the dj top 100 is a great example...its all about how many people you get through the doors not how good of a dj you are...period |

The reality is that Toronto is less DJ driven then it used to be (unless we're talking about the Tiesto hype machine). 75% of the attendees are those who go out for the venue and/or the promoter(s) rather than the DJ (this is a reality).
The other factor at work here is that many DJs play for the same venue / promoter over and over. At some point, the market targetted by that venue / promoter will become saturated with seeing DJ X @ Venue Y which results in little 'hype' for the event and low turn out. I find that the DJs that tend to draw well in Toronto are those who do play for multiple venues / promoters. Maybe it's time to stop thinking about relationships and start thinking about what's best for you?
In any case, the night was awesome! The vodka was flowing non-stop and the beats were awesome. The attendance was perfect to my liking, not overly packed which always makes for a better night.:D |

fully agreed. Even last year at system when Max played it wasnt really packed to the titts or anything. Like TiL friday night it was a really comfortable crowd to party with. I myself much rather have a nice crowd and some room to dance and have fun rather than being packed like a can of sardines.
Understanding that clubs and promoters should do bookings based on the talent of the dj and what he or she is doing in the scene not the number of people the dj can draw in. But ummm yea who are we kidding lolz what chances are there of happening that in Toronto. |

sure, but I feel more comfortable believing that perhaps the attendees demographic has changed. I can't help but notice a change in clientele, and I think those in the new breed of clubbers tend to go more for the show/image (of themselves) rather than the dj.
There are a handful of very succesful nights going on in the city at the moment, and I think you're linking those nights with the (new type of) attendendees rather than it being our tastes changing.

If you're specifically addressing Max's comment this wouldn't apply as it was his first appearance at TiL and he hasn't been here since almost a year.
