REVIEW: Miss Honey Dijon @ Sonic

alright...so after thinking that this was on friday night, lol, ended up going after all when I realized we didn't miss it.
*awesome* night...my first at Sonic...can't say enough about the place...cool crowd, great space and excellent sound. I will sooooo be going there more often. *zero* complaints.
Honey dropped some very cool tracks...the music was excellent...great mix of Coldplay and Deelite :)
however...later on...whoa...some *serious* trainwrecks...I'm guessing that something wasn't quite right up in the booth...I dunno.
nice to finally meet you Jeff...great chatting with ya...will defintely head out sometime soon to Fez on a Wed and catch a set...and many more Sonic nights to come, for sure! |

This was by far the best night at Sonic to date. Wray opened up pretty good, track selection was a little off at times ("Good Vibrations"...wtf?) but all in all he got the crowd pumped up nearing the end of his set. Honey came on...and well she showed what that system is fully capable of, talk about swingin' for the fences with how she was playing it, very impressive. Her whole set was pretty much right up my alley, hard techy tribal, fairly fast and the energy level was kept high during her entire set. This is the 5th time seeing her and she never disapoints...the regular Sonic crew that was M.I.A. gravely missed out on this night.
Overall I give it a 8.5/10....half a point goes to the "bad episode of the Gong Show" of a crowd....and the other point cause Andrea wasn't there.
P.S. just a guess on the trainwrecks....she was playing alot of vinyl, and from what i understand, there can be problems when it's so hot and humid in the club.

Do you mean by the Beach Boys, Marky Mark, or the new remix/ re-work of Loleatta Holloway's "Love Sensation"

We had an AWESOME time last night!!! The girls were in full effect.
Sometime around 1:45 arrived at the club and Cajjmere was just doing
his room warming and I loved the mild groove. But I don't know
what happened from 2am to 4am because he had us for EVERY SINGLE
FCUKING SONG on that dancefloor! We didn't leave! LOL. His music is
not quite like anyone I've heard play in that space so far, or at any
club in Toronto for that matter. I don't know how to describe it but
there was some really yummy chuggy house, some REALLY dirty house,
and of course a nice blend of some really sexy vocals in there. He
played David Morales' "How Would You Feel" for god's sake and at that
point I think my clothes were sticking to my body in 'certain' places
*wink wink*. Who am I kidding, with the lack of A/C last night in
there (and YES it was HOT!) all my clothes were sticking after a bit.
Can't wait for Cajjmere's next set at Sonic in July. I don't know it
just seems he is warming us up for something really hot in the middle
of the summer, lol. Bottom line Cajjmere gave us the bass last night.
NOW, as per the norm at 4am the music switched up
but I really couldn't tell. If they hadn't changed up the lighting
I wouldn't have known that Honey had come on. It was hard to tell
when she was going to be starting because Cajjmere was playing some
YUMMY tech house stuff here and there, but nothing too heavy.
No disrespect but I could have just listened to him all night come
to think about it. :happy2:
Honey opened with some really GREAT tracks and kept the vibe in
the room going on a magic high for hours it seemed. I don't know
what it is about her but she does have a magic going on when
she plays. I've never been disappointed at a single Honey party.
The last time she played at 270 it was INSANE! This wasn't
quite the same but it still had me and the crew bumpin' hardcore!
At one point it did seem that maybe the heat was getting
to her too and there were alot of screw up's, but I guess that
can happen to any dj's right?
I give the night overall a 9/10 because Sonic NEEDS TO FIX THE A/C!
If it was working and there were just too many people in there last
night, then my bad. It just kept reminding me of a bad Britney
Spears video for 'Slave' with all these people dripping sweat all
over each other in some kind of dancefloor orgy, LOL.
Anyhow, see you all next weekend for Morales and Nevio! CAN'T WAIT!

no no ...it was indeed the funky bunch, but sandwiched between a couple dark druggy house tunes, it was very out of place |

Oh yeah that was that new remix of Love Sensation. That track is
hot! (as Paris would say) I think it's got too many vocals in some
places but it's a classic none the less and that version Cajjmere
played is my fav for sure.

LOL.....at some points I agree'd it was better to have it nice and
hot and sticky. But then by a part of the night I was making too
many dives down to the lower level to cool off. Not to mention how
much water I had to drink to stay hydrated :eyes: . |

Well...who needs Grey Poupon when you can have Honey Dijon...ing best night in weeks!
They were just barely able to keep the system from shaking loose and flying around the room...
I heard they had a problem with the control board for the lights, so it was nice and dark...no more football stadium Steve!
Missed all our TOTA family last night...oh, and Joe and Yvonne are out now...very few of us still batting 1000.
Oh, and we got popsicles....lots of popsicles.... |
