If asked about weaknesses, say your biggest weakness is not being able to determine your weaknesses. |
If you say this to a smart interviewer, a "red flag" will go up in their head. Answering like this either indicates that you are refusing to partake in their question (and thus a poor communicator), or that you're unable to accurately assess yourself, which may lead to interpersonal conflict later on. |

This is a good answer for a career position, as it indicates you're more interested in the quality of the work than the amount of time you put in. Sure it can be regarded as a weakness by you, and can sometimes be seen as a weakness (by others), but really it's a strength, because it shows you're attentive to detail (and quality, as mentioned before) and will help the organization because of it. |

omg, i hate when they ask that! What i do with my personal life is none of their business, and its not like what ever I do, i will bring to the workplace so it dosent matter to them. |
How is that question directly tied with personal life? I don't see any mention of off-the-job activities in that question. Why don't you just talk about yourself as relating to the job?
example:
"I'm a reliable person, which is evidenced by the fact that I never once showed up late in the X amount of time I worked for organization Y." |

question: tell me your biggest weakness.
answer: well i try to have fun at my job no matter what im doing. some ppl might think of it as me not takin the job seriously but i believe that if you're having fun with what your doing, you're going to do a better job at it.
done and done. |
makes you sound like you're not serious at your job. instead i'd say something like what jackson said.

I interview on occassion for positions within my department
One favorite I like asking is:
What does this company benefit for you other than salary and experience?
People often forget that an interview is slightly a two way street. You have to go in to them thinking I am being interviewed for a position in this company and often forget that the interviewer is a reflection of how a company is organized. I've gone through MANY interviews, some that even required me to sit infront of say a board of people.
Yes, I enjoy seeing interviewe's in discomfort lol, but that's just to gauge reaction experience. I don't want someone to work for me or the company that buckles under pressure when they are being called upon.
Shortly after I see they are uncomfortable, I switch my method to ensure them that everything is ok, something a bit more comforting and casual. I ask them questions outside of the normal workplace environment. I dislike the whole sit at a table, face to face, pen and paper question asking.
Most job related questions are text book questions that anyone can look up. That's nothing, real jobs are about how you deal with bull, how much you execute, and how you manage your time. A good manager lets you bull , expects you to execute, and demonstrate a good time management system. A good employee knows when to bull, executes his deliverables, and keeps you aware of a timeline of projects he is working on. That's all the really needs to be known, I don't need to know that he's chatting, he can chat all he wants, he just better deliver what he said he'd deliver over whatever period of time. Over the course of a year, that's how you gauge who your valuable employees are and who aren't.
It works for me, I'm on TA ALOT!, but I handle my , i deliver it when i say it's gonna be delivered and I get called upon by say 35% of my division for tasks OUTSIDE of my job description. |

hypothetical situation:
what do you do?
"you're in the middle of nowhere. there's a massive storm, and you're driving in your car. you arrive at a bus stop. at the stop is a 1) a very old woman about to die unless she gets to a hospital, 2) the love of your life, 3) a best friend who saved your life once before.
you only have room in your car for one other person. who do you take?"
that's a fun question, but a question that i got in my last interview that i had to kind of think on my feet:
"well, it seems from you high school years you should have a 4.0 gpa in college. why don't you?" |

^^good movie...
as for the GPA question, I would respond, I began to learn how important time management is and understand how important it is to keep all my tasks in order. My GPA is reflection of not understanding this. |

yea, i basically said, "my gpa is well above the average engineering student here. i focused on other activities besides academics: club sports, and founding and leading clubs. i also take unrequired classes out of major that are more difficult, but that i am interested in. as a result of all of these factors, my gpa has slightly suffered. but i feel that it was a wise choice, because i'm a more well rounded individual."
i didn't get the job, but then again, i found something else that pays better, that's closer to home and friends, and that's cheaper cost (this job was in london, travelling plus lodging) |

mine probably isnt that best but the perfectionist one is the worst. i was talkin to some HR recruitment contacts from differnt companies and they said that when someone answers with that they just roll their eyes and it just put u in a category of idiots who say that. an interview is ur time to stand out. try somethin different. thats the reason why i liked my response because it goes out on a limb, not sayin the same everyone else does to be safe. when u do say fun at ur job, only say fun once and switch it to enjoy. iv never had any interviewe's not like that answer |
