The Differences Between Trance & Techno

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. But I'm a huge fan of Trance & Techno. That's why I'm so excited when I found this web site and community. I thought it's hard to find Trance community. Please be nice to me, coz I'm just a n00b. (>.<)

Anyway, I've been listening to both genre for quite long time, but still don't get the differences between them. What makes them so different, anyway? The elements? The techniques? Well, maybe I could figure out some songs. But I'm still wondering to know more and deep.

Thanks.
Ian
Pains me to say this, because of some of the things i disagree with on it, but for the best examples try http://www.ishkur.com/music/ & use the guide there :)

It's hard for me to explain this with words..
All I can do is to suggest you to listen to a trance and a techno track..YOu will feel the difference..

one thing i like about ishkur's guide that i just found...was the samples archive...it's fun to try and find samples and add them :p

this is easy to explain.. trance has alot of melodie and breakdowns. Techno doesnt so its more like hardbanging most of the time..

listen to Chris Leibing for techno
listen to Ferry Corsten for trance

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a major difference between the two genre is the presence and absence of melody patterns. Techno usually lacks melody patterns where as trance has a lot of melody.

A really simple answear is that trance is based on melodies and techno based on percussion.

Trance imo has more connections to your feelings.. techno is more flat.

easy answer
everything that you think is "techno" isn't techno.

everything you can find under "techno" on P2P's isn't techno.

techno is what newbies to electronic music use to call everything electronic.
but in reality techno is a very harsh genre that is more suitable to the experienced listener
