Why Canadian laws are veeeeered

This is a spin off of the 14 year old sex consent law thread.
Unlike most countries
You can:
marry someone of the same sex
have sex with 14 year olds
women can be topless in public (anywhere)
walk around with marijuana with no fear of significant punishment
bring your dog to work
Also unlike most countries
you cant:
smoke anywhere indoors
drink past a certain hour
drink in public
wear perfume to many workplaces
own a pitbull
water your lawn
hold a large music festival (unless its funded by a special interest)
drink or smoke legally as an adult until 19 (even though 18 is legally considered to be adult)
So it seems the special interests have this place in the palms of their hands while the common man keeps getting screwed over. With the exception of the 14 year old sex thing, i dont have a problem with the canadian "can do" list. But if we are going to act like a liberal country, we need to start allowing people to do common everyday things as well.
Our priorities in canada are really ed up. |

- Do not quote it as a law when it is not. You can and will face charges if caught with marijuana. I just had friends who went to court for a small amount, the cases are pending.
- Company policies, not laws.

- You can still smoke in your house
- I have worked for 8 different companies and none of them said no to purfume. Plus this is not a law, but instead a company policy.
- Water restrictions are localized when the weather conditions call for it. Smart if you ask me. Why water your lawn, when your area is running out of water? |

Yeah - no kidding - water laws are there for conservation; and its a damn good thing - otherwise, you'd have suburban idiots manning their hoses in drought periods to keep there "golf course greens" green.
The drinking age is a bit old, and the marijuana "freedom" isn't really freedom - I know a few people who have been to court over a JOINT. |

the charges are not nearly as severe as in most countries
as for the perfume.. its now law in ottawa and halifax. And probably coming soon to a city near you

sorry then, i should have redefined it as public places. But even in your own house you cant smoke if there are people there working like maids and caregivers. And you cant smoke in your work vehicle. And now they are pushing for banning smoking in homes with children

we were running out of water... now we are hooked into lake ontatio yet the restrictions remain. hmmmm |
