Not really luck. We have a bunch of world class players who were (for the first time) finally organised together into a coherent, threatening team by arguably the best coach in world football (or probably "soccer" to you).
Italy defended well with a man down and Australia just weren't able to penetrate the Italian goal in normal time.
The only thing I'm glad about is that I can resume sleeping properly each week. The boys deserved to go out better than that.....just about the most awful way to get knocked out of a tournament. At least if it was a regulation goal we could probably all deal with it a little easier! |

| This really did seem like we had italy stunned somewhat, before the penalty was given, it seemed to be a pretty even affair as australia was really clicking well. We should be proud not just for the fact that we made it this far, but the fact that football is also the overall winner for australia and australians. There hasn't been this much of a following for the game ever I reckon and it's great to finally see :) hopefully it gives the local game a nice kickstart. |
