If you really believed that the world was a great, big place with lots to do and lots of people to meet, then why would you hang yourself up on only liking one variety of person?
Marily Manson may go out of his way to put all of his odd tendencies up front, but how do you know that what you see isn't what you get? Perhaps he is one of the most honest people out there. In my experience, the most normal-seeming people are the ones with the most to hide. People who revile the odd things in life and are afraid to tolerate things that do not support their prejudice are the ones who are truly ed up. Manson's great act is that he pretends to be a hateful, prejudiced person, garnering as much attention as he can get while still having some depth to his character. People critical of this and the message behind his music will come to realize that he is prodding fun at religious and prejudiced America by pretending to hate or support whatever is most controversial. When we feel so much towards a certain subject, it can sometimes blind us - I guess the great goodness behind Manson's art is that he exposes this feeling, this elicited hatred and addresses it, dissects it in front of everyone so we can see what we do to ourselves. Like I said, it's all an act.
I guess if you think he's stupid or something, that's cool too. :stongue:
But the more you hate him, the more you play his game. Laugh at him, call him a fag, whatever...listen to his music and maybe you'd realize who is laughing at whom.
Hope you don't think I am trying to change your mind about him or anything - it's pretty apparent that your opinion is cemented into your head. Cemented opinions are funny though. The more your opinion stays the same, the smaller your world gets. But it's a great big world with lots of different people in it, right? |

i wouldn't necessarily say that people who keep it simple and real are a specific group of people, like for example, "rockers" or "tree hugging hippies". i think the type of people i'm talking about are actually part of a more broad classification. like really, there's only 2 people in this world. people who are content with themselves and drama-free and dont really go out of their way to be a certain labled image...there's no hidden agenda really. i think it's refreshing that's all. and then there's people who are the opposite. confused, angry, "deep", emotional, "artists", dramatic creatures who are really just narcissists. lol

well if that's the case, then i DEFINITELY dont like him. i'm not really down with S&M freaks in metal diapers on stage feeding on young, angry, confused teenagers to fill his pockets.

Ok, so I'm ed up because I loathe beastiality and incest? I'm just thinking of two "odd things in life" here. Yes these 2 things do not support my "prejudice" so i'm ed up. MM is into some pretty raunchy and disgusting things that he performs on stage, and i honestly do not care for his music. this does not make me afraid to tolerate it. i just don't like it. you're looking too deep into this when really it's quite simple. lol

well then, if he "pretends" and doesn't show his true colors, who is really afraid here? and he shouldn't be surprised or amused at all by people's reactions which are quite predictable. he's not doing anything new or meaningful here if you ask me.

i'm sorry but i still fail to see any reasoning behind bringing more hatred into this world than there already is. or even disecting it, stirring it up, instigating it, whatever he does.

nah, i'm still laughing at him. lol and really, this is the only time i get into arguments about the guy. i'm sitting here bored to death at work, and this is stimulating for me, but trust me, i dont go into these long winded arguments about marilyn manson all the time in person. the guy hardly crosses my mind, unless i turn on my favorite rock station, hear that his song is on "personal jesus" and then i think, "ehh, no thanks" and change the station:p

It's all an act. It's too bad you don't get it. He really has some important things to say.
Also, the technical mastery he possesses is quite remarkable. Did you know that the drums from Antichrist Svperstar are all synthetic? :eyespop: And the work he did on the score for the first Resident Evil movie was great as well.
So yeah he's a whiny freak who lets everyone know how messed up he is, but he does it for a reason so just take a step back and analyze what that reason might be. He's really quite talented when it comes to music production and the great big facade he takes on is also quite entertaining. :happy2:
