Lieb's a pretty mediocre DJ most of the time, to be honest. |

Also the question was most respected dj of all time, not specifically trance dj.
BT? Tiesto? PVD? Shiloh? Andy Moor? Lawler? Who ever is passing the glue around someone please take it away. Is this amateur hour? Most respected of all time? Some of you should be very ashamed of yourselves for a few of those answers!
It all comes down to one man.
Sasha.
No one has stood the test of time like Sasha has.
In 1997 when the first ever DJ mag poll happened, he was ranked 3rd in the world. PVD was 42. Tiesto? Didn't even appear on the list til 2000 where he was #24. Tijs didn't break top 10 til 2001.
Here are Sasha's rankings since the poll's inception:
2005 - 4th
2004 - 4th
2003 - 4th
2002 - 2nd
2001 - 2nd
2000 - 1st
1999 - 3rd
1998 - 5th
1997 - 3rd
now I'm sure I don't have to mention that the DJ mag poll isn't the absolute holy bible of who is best, but I'll put this disclaimer in for the twat that otherwise would have likely posted that redundant note ;)
I think by now Sasha should be knighted and/or have his own holiday where everyone wears wigs & aviators to pay their respect. |
hahahahahahahahahahaha wow!!!! this has got to be the iest justification i've heard. SO basically according to you, the most respected DJ is Sasha because he's been on the Top 100 list since it started? pffffffffffffffffffft whatever, it just a popularity contest.
Im not saying Sasha isn't one of the most respectable DJs out there, but your justification is just a load of , like the poll itself. |

Oops.
I have heard a Speedy J mix from 1990. It was pretty good.
I have never heard Cosmic Baby mix.... acually now that I think of it he probably doesn't. |

when I learned about Tiesto in late 97 he was THE DJ for me and many many others. yeah there was Oakenfold and others. But Tiesto was the IT. He made Trance great music for listening(not just club music) for a lot of people. Did it so much, and kept on doing it 'till the point where HE made trance mainstream worldwide and hence, not cool anymore. (that happens with every music  ) Even I got tired of it and stopped listening to trance about 3years ago.... I still own some tiesto and tiesto influenced records, but don't play'em. But if you ask regular-non-edm-fans aroudn the world, who's your favorite trance DJ? Tiesto is the most answered. Just for that, I gotta say he's the most respected of this genre.
| quote: | | Tiësto's career is punctuated by landmark achievements – the first DJ in the world to sell out a solo stadium event for over 25,000 people, he scored a number one hit with his single Traffic, the first instrumental track to reach the top spot in his homeland of Holland in 23 years. His remix of Delerium featuring Sarah McLachlan's Silence was the first house track ever broadcast on daytime radio in North America, (it became an international dancefloor anthem and also spent eight weeks in the UK top 10 chart). He played live in front of billions of people during the Parade Of The Athletes at the official opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Athens. |

Thanks for coming out mr Ocean, I was expecting you ;)
Put out a popular track that goes mainstream & climb the ranks, that's one thing. Hold a top 5 ranking in the world's largest DJ poll for 9 years, and you're only fooling yourself if you think that person got that out of a fluke or flawed system. If Sasha received that amount of votes from people every year for 9 years, does that kind of dominating popularity also not translate into that amount of people respecting him? Any idiot can look at that list and guess who are the names who got there due to questionable reasons. I doubt anyone would say that of Sasha.
Tiesto aka mr risky aka 'I mix on the edge' doesn't make the cut for consideration as most respected dj because look how many people laugh at his mixing. He even openly admits it. We are talking most respected DJ of all time.. not favorite DJs/artists. There's really no one who's held a position as high as Sasha for that long on a global scale of recognition. And Sasha certainly predates that DJ Mag poll that's for sure or he wouldn't have landed at #3 it's first year. |

Actually pal. Read what the original poster put in his first post. Most respected TRANCE DJ. So those of us who have put names like Tiesto, PVD, Corsten etc are well within our rights. Had it been a DJ of any genre I would have put Carl Cox but the original poster asked for TRANCE DJ's so I like many others named a trance DJ |

It is disgusting to read and I hate you.
PvD most respected DJ? Get a grip. |
you've been around here for a bit and generally post sensible stuff,
but this is very retarded,
in my original post i asked for the most respected trance dj, "not the best" , as the latter is based on personal preferences,
i respect other people's taste and you cleary don't , which is a bit sad really, and as far as prestige goes, you even tried to get yourself voted in to the djmag list, which is poor in itself,
so i take stuff you say and suggest with a pince of salt.
yes i really like pvd's music but that's it, i have no interest in him as a person,
you ever considered that in a forum consisting of thousands or perhaps hundreds of thousands of members, it isn't that easy to find an alias, hence the choice of pvdclubber. |
