I never thought about that, but I guess it could be construed that way if you have an, eh-hem, 'open mind' about that sort of thing. |

No, the one on the bottom looks a lot like the one on the top. Maybe you can edit it and put breasts on the bottom one. |

I have been on here quite some time now and have noticed something that is a little bothersome. There are quite a few people on here that are just straight up trance haters. They talk about there beloved genre of music, which is cool with me. I love all of it, with maybe the exception of D&B (oh God, I will probably catch for that one too.).
But here is what I propose. If you don't like trance, keep your ing mouth shut if you have nothing nice to say. I don't continually bag on your music. Besides, last time I checked, the name of this site is TRANCEaddict.com. Not My_genre_is_better_than_yours_and_I_have_nothing_better_to_do_than_insult_your_music_and_tell_you_it
_sucks.com
It's cool that you don't like it. But don't say it's just a gateway to better music and you really don't have any musical taste if you listen to it. That just shows what a mindless idiot you are. |
Im not a Trance hater, but music has changed alot my friend. I consider you open your ears to newer things out there. Trance is the only genre that hasnt' evolved in the last, mmm century.
Trance-addict forum has become a broad, free-speaking board and has evolved from the strict Trance-head perspective.
There are still plenty of Trance followers and there are also newcomers, they are all welcome. |

why the can't Djjonas realize that the point of my post was simply to say this: everyone has their own taste in music. don't expect me to speak nicely of something I dislike just because you like it. but don't change your views just because of me. if I critizice music, you still have the right to like it.
and honestly, yes, I do think it's hilarious to watch people flip out when someone disagrees with them. It's just an internet board and I'm someone you've never met (and likely won't ever meet), why do you care so much and get so up in arms? But I don't "hate on trance" just because of that; it just happens that I honestly don't like a whole lot of the stuff, and it's a funny side effect when people get defensive about it.
I couldn't care what you call something except that genres make it convenient to identify other things that will likely be similar (which helps a lot at the record store). Just like Zeonfiend, I don't really give a crap what something is labeled. If I like it, I'll play it. I just don't go running for the trance bin first when I'm looking for new stuff because I can make an educated guess that most of what's in it is not for me.
To directly address the topic: I do, honestly, hate a lot of trance, and by that I mean it makes my ears want to vomit. I hate the stuff that sounds just like every other pop sounding trance song ever made. There's something about heavily vocoded female lyrics pasted over a generic riff that makes me cringe. I hate musically insipid but wanna-be "inspiring" or "euphoric" trebel riffs that often imitate classical music but forget to take into account any semblence of progression or cadence (especially cadence). I hate rhythmically boring and homogenized percussion. I hate the stuff that sounds like mass-marketed MTV fodder. It just sounds awful to me, for whatever reason.
I realize that this doesn't accurately characterize every trance song ever made. However, these things really irritate me and are prevalent enough that I tend to steer away from trance.
Aside from the music, I hate even more the fact that a lot of people think of that, and only that, when they think of electronic music. I can tell someone that I like minimal techno or tech house and they will say "Oh you like techno...SANDSTORM LOL BOOM CHHH BOOM CHH" and it pisses me the off that people assume that I'm a glowsticking candy raver e-tard because I like EDM. So basically, I hate the fact that the mass-marketing of cheesy trance and euro-pop leads to public ignorance and misconception about EDM and closed-mindedness about the really inventive styles (and the good parts of trance) that are out there.
I hate that trance now doesn't even remotely resemble trance as it used to be, in the early and mid 90's when trance itself (and its close cousin progressive trance) was ing incredible. Music like that (the northern exposure series for instance) is what drew me in to electronic music. But nowadays, I can't even call that kind of music "trance" because few people will realize what I'm talking about. And it's not that I dislike that a variety of styles have come about, because evolution is good, but it's the fact that the old style has disappeared almost entirely and been replaced with something that I mostly dislike.
so, why am I posting on a "tranceaddict" message board? Because there isn't another forum dedicated to house/prog/whatever (that I know of) with an active Houston-area community, and between this site and 77002.com I get a good picture of what's going on in the scene. You're kidding yourself bigtime if you think this is a pure trance board anyway. And after that, because it's fun to joke around or talk about technical stuff or discuss music, even moreso because there are a variety of opinions. |
