OK, So I am waiting to turn right at this light that I am used to turning at... I look to see that the way is clear and I gun it assuming the person in front of me has gone... oops... I bumped into her...
I am such an idiot.
Minor damage... about $600 to their car... My car is fine...
Question is, should I settle outside of insurance? |

YES - do NOT go through insurance.
consider the $600 a slap on the wrist, going through insurance will likely bump your insurance to at least that PER YEAR.... |

Haha. I've had so many run-ins with other cars I'm running out of fingers to count them on.
And yeah, $600 is not *that* much, and if you go insurance route, it will be marked as 'your fault' anyway. |

Hope you didn't go to the collision centre because if you did you are screwed either way as it will be reported. We learned that the hard way one time. |

That's kinda what I thought...
I will call her back and tell her I am going to settle outside... Sucks for them... I feel bad that they have to go through this inconvience because of my dumb ass mistake...
That split second is gonna cost me $600! |

That depends on who her insurer is. The CRCs have a program by which they automatically send reports to subscribing insurance companies whenever one of their insureds makes a report. If her insurer isn't a subscriber then she's fine. Unfortunately, I don't know all the subscribers so I couldn't tell her for sure. |

I would also offer to pay for her to have replacement transportation while her car is repaired as she would be entitled to it if she were to claim (this is assuming she asks if of you otherwise don't offer). I would also recommend you get her to sign a release waiving her right to any legal action against you for damages or injury. If you PM me a fax number I can send you one... or email address. |

If I were the non-at-fault party I would. The non-at-fault party doesn't pay a deductible, gets a rental without costs, and their rates aren't adjusted. Honestly, if you are not at fault the only reason to settle privately is to be a nice person (which I am not). |

Is she the not-at-fault party? I don't know if that's the case here. I would settle privately. I've done it before. It's the cost of doing business. Get the quote, pay it directly the repair shop. be done with it. No reason to get insurance involved. |
