I have to say that after reading what he said, I most likely would too in the heat of the moment. he didnt just taunt him once but he persisted knowing full well what was going to happen. that gets on your nerves and stays with you for the rest of the game, to the point where youre unable to concentrate and all youre thinking about is the insult and how youre gonna deal with it.
then again, had zidane won the cup it wouldve been a much better way to get back at materazzi. |

Are you an idiot? It doesn't have anything to do at all whatsoever with being a player of the losing team. What is so wrong to award it to a player from the runner-ups, don't you think an individual from a losing team might have excelled above all others?
The only issues with awarding it to Zidane were the huge lack of fair play he shown by heading Materazzi (fair play has been an important criteria used by FIFA in other awards), and the fact it was questionable that he was the best player in the tournament in the first place - he had been in the group stage.
