I went there when mampi swift was in town (yeah yeah, shush) so I can't say much about what the usual crowd is like, but I will say that Spam is spot on about the sound system. It is LOUD, and to be honest, second rate sound quality. Not enough to detract from the experience, but you'll notice it.
I definitely noticed the empty-ish dance floor thing when I was there as well. All around the dance area there are these big blocks (like tables that come out of the floor, you'll know when you see them) that the standers like to congregate around, so if you get to the middle you should have space to bust a move. Well, Swift filled it up with dancers pretty tight, but everyone on the dance floor was actually dancing so no complaints.
Chiclet is a resident there, she is fun to watch if you can get up close, I don't know if you'll be able to see too well with the booth set up the way it is though. |

| ive been to viva at least 50 times.... its about 95% asian on a reguler friday night, and noticble more multicultural on special events. in terms of the sound... i personally like it more then guv.... i beleive the company that did the sound and lighting for viva was also responsible for republik although i could be wrong. the lighting at viva i think is much better in terms of the "package". it was mentioned that they do not have the cannons with the cold air... but what they do have that the guv doenst is a snow machine which produces snow that gently falls ontop of the crowd (cool effect, no pun intended.....wait pun intended). i think that viva's sound and lighting is second ONLY to guv and with the right crowd in that venue it is easily the best EDM venue after guv/docks |

| Thanks for all the replies. So it shouldn't be a asian party on friday since Rank1 is a special event ? Also what would be the easiest way to get there coming from Ottawa ? lol. |

SPECIAL EFFECTS: Guv, by far. Viva has lasers and lights, but Guv outdoes it easily. But that's not to say Viva's lighting is bad, it's just not as good. Also, they don't have a nitrous blaster like Guv does.
CROWD: Viva has a much bigger Asian crowd percentage. Guv is always a lot more packed though. Viva has this incomprehensible property that right in front of the DJ boooth there is a lot more space than there is in the back of the club. Guv is a sardine can everywhere.
OVERALL: I like Viva. Not as much as Guv (on its good nights, Guv on bad nights is a horror), bu from time to time I really enjoy going to events at Viva to break out of the mold of spending every Sat at Guv. It's a nice change for once in a while. I suggest you go at least check it out.
P.S. The club is really hard to find unless you know exactly where it is. |
