Huh? All you "need" is two technics 1200's, carts, a mixer with two rotary volume knobs, headphones and a monitor.
What do you "need"?

| A nice controller for Ableton Live. |

Now THAT I can agree with ;)
Something that doesn't feel like a toy but doesn't cost $3000 like the Xone:3D.

... I've been meaning to pick up a Serato... but this makes me think.
The 'amputate' mode I don't really care about - but the integration with Ableton is VERY hot. Anyone know if Serato plans on countering with their own integration sometime? |

My first impression is not very high.
Couple things: USB 1.1?? Why wouldnt this be 2.0? My personal opinion about USB is . I think taking interfaces like this on stage should not be USB. Firewire is much more reliable with its consistent data flow.
Something else is "2 knobs for mixing". If I have five tracks playing at once in Ableton, i really lack the hardware conrol of mixing them.
And personnaly, the GUI looks sloppy.
The best hands on control I have expierenced with Ableton is using a MOTU Traveller, having four outs routed IN to a DJ mixer. You cant beat the hands on feel of a DJ mixer with Ableton.

The Xone:3D uses USB 1.1
And the knobs aren't for mixing tracks in ableton, they are for controlling the mix from the turntables to the signal coming from the PC.

Does Serato or Final Scratch give you the ability to use one deck to mix. |

what's the hardware actually do?
torq looks pretty in badass. i like that stutter/beat creation he was doing with that midi pad. you can't do that with anything other than ableton on-the-fly can you?
i also wonder how well the auto-sync works.. |
