Inexpensive, quality MIDI controller...

I'm looking for something inexpensive (around $100 or less) that I can use with Reason 3. I've been using my computer keyboard with MidiKeys on my Macbook and it's really not cutting it... I want something where I have access to a broad range of notes at a time. I searched on Amazon and the M-Audio Keystation 49e looks like something I'm looking for, but I'm just looking for something simple that I can use to play different notes as I'm tweaking the synths, etc and I don't really know where to start. Any suggestions?

If you want something simple and without no knobs or sliders to assign to..then just get the Keystation49. For about 30 or 50 more bucks you can either get the Radium49 or the Oxygen8. I have a E-Mu Xboard49 and it works wonders for me, mine was $169.99

I'm a total noob to keyboards, do you assign different functions in the program to the knobs and use them within the program? I was actually looking at the Emu Xboard 49 on Amazon and it looks really nice, though I'm a little unclear about what all the knobs, etc are used for on MIDI controllers. I'm still fairly new to producing, so I don't want to buy something that I will just have to replace later. |

Yes like assigning a filter to one of the knobs on your controller to mess with. But if you do get a board with a few knobs and such..it would go a long way later down the road if your just a beginner

I've worked with FL Studio 5 for about a year or so, but I'm switching to Reason 3 and it seems difficult without having a MIDI controller. In my position, still being pretty new to producing, of the 3 (M-audio Radium 49 and Oxygen8 and the Emu Xboard 49) which would do you think would be the best to go with? All 3 look nice to me :)

I bought the xboard because it has aftertouch keys on it..and i also liked the 16 knobs..whatever suits you best i suppose..and of course price range is always a factor.
