It's a precautionary measure, a warning of sorts.
Unless they are really wackjobs they should accept you straight or not, the concern is about you and your acceptance, not the other way around.

Ahh hmm, I had not thought of that. Most of the listings I've encontered so far that ask for, say, a gay male roomate are looking for either a gay male or a straight female. I was thinking it was so there would be no tension between myself and the female roomate(s).
Personally I have no problem with other people's sexual orientation and/or behavior, as long as it isn't overly disturbing. Just as I wouldn't want to be kept up at night by some hot lesbians, I wouldn't want to be kept up at night by some gay males. |

I say call/email a couple ads stating you're straight but are open to gay and bi people and are interested in the apartment.
