| I need some casual headphones (not for mixing), and I'm on a 200 USD budget. what is the best bang for buck? |

| depends if you will be listening on a portable device (ipod, DAP) or if you will be listening to records or cds etc off a stereo. |

| i'll be listening through my (ty knock-off brand) mp3 player and plugging these babies into my computer. |

| Sony MDR 7506. I own them and love em for everyday listening and u can mix with them. I use my Pioneer HDJ 1000's for DJ'ing, but only cause they are more punchy or bass heavy which I prefer in a loud environment. There also only about $90 US...can't beat em. |

dude, $200 for casual headphones? thats a mighty big budget. most studio quality headphones go for less than that. my casual headphones are a $40 pair of koss plugs. for earbuds they have awesome bass response, and pretty decent noise cancellation.
i guess for $200 you could pick up a pair of those overpriced bose cans. |

for casual listening i'm assuming u're not looking for big bulky phones (like the sonys that were mentioned).
$200 will buy u really nice headphones though..... check out ones from either ultimate ears or etymotic research.... i recently brought a pair of ultimate ears isolation phones and they are freakin' amazing! they are earbud style so more convenient to take around than a pair of cans....

| thanks guys. I guess, really the question I should have asked was: given the choice between Sony MDR-NC50, Bose Triport, and Phillips HN110 (the brands carried by my local Best Buy (giftcards baby)), what is the best bang for buck? |

| sell the giftcards and order a pair of Grado SR-60s off the net. $60 and probably the best open ear headphones you are gonna get that can be powered off a portable device without a pocket amp. but yeah, I havnt tried any earbud style headphones but I hear those can be pretty comfortable and also have some wicked good sound. I dont really like can -style headphones for just listening computer or for mp3playering(?) because they usually are pretty heavy and after a while my ears got uncomfortably hot. |

sennheiser, i've loved every pair of sennheisers i've ever used so far. been thinking about getting some px 100's but i don't really need them so i haven't bought them yet. :p
though they're a lot cheaper than 200$ and i wouldn't spend that much for "casual headphones" |

Plus 1 on the Sennheisers!
HD580 or 600 all the way.
Bollock tingling sounds. |

alright, here is the showdown:
Sony MDR V150 - around 20 bucks.
Sony MDR V500 DJ - around 70 bucks.
Are the v500s worth the 50 jump?
thanks again for all the help guys. |
