Richie is selling out - DVD coming out

I could have come up with some pioneers other than the most featured artist in current electronic music: Richie Hawtin who i’d love to see in a video special but as Rich is always interesting to see, to listen to and about and naturally due to the fact that he’s a berlin citizen we won’t bitch and moan too much bout’ the fact that Slices - the electronic music magazine on DVD chose him as their topic on their first release of the upcoming series “Pioneers of Electronic Music“.

What we are going to see will be 20 years of Richie Hawtin through video flics and comments from well known musicians as well as family members and people from his private life. Hear what Mr. & Mrs. Hawtin, Matthew Hawtin, John Acquaviva, Karl Kowalski, Derrick May, Sven Väth, Jason Huvaere, Mike Banks, Clark Warner, Amir Daiza, Daniel Miller, Scott Gordon and Mike Himes, Kevin Saunderson and naturally Rich himself and many more have to say about “Richie Hawtin”.

The DVD is due to be released by the end of october. For a first preview check out this little trailer over at http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?f...d=992756421&n=2

maybe this'll show richie's true side, the side that people loved him for in the beginning, as the bald white canadian geek that used to make acid techno and spin sets like no other other than richie hawtin the man with the haircut stolen from sven väth.

Richie and his clique might look like total retards, but this dvd is something i want.I can remember Richie doing things with final scratch that no one else could dream of at the time.(waaaay before abbleton)If you havent heard Sven Vath talk before it is probably worth the cost of this alone. The man is not human. This DVD looks amazing.

I don't understand how this is selling out. To me it looks like a dang good dvd.
rustyryan
yea, and furthermore how is this selling out ?

what's wrong with a guy providing a dvd about himself for those interested, and possibly in the process making a few bucks?

"selling out" i think is generally changing one's sound drastically in order to ride the wave of another style's popularity.

i'm joking - it's like every dj nowadays has to have a dvd

and it's good that someone else - not richie - is making this dvd - it's not just a dvd of one of richie's gigs etc.

This'd better show Richie for the large spectacled geek in the corner that he really is.

Putting out a DVD is not selling out, because even this release wont change the fact that the population of "normals" still wont know who the hell Hawtin is.This is edm here, using the term sellout is only applicable to a few huge names that dont deserve the mention.
Doing the Olympics was selling out though:p :p
