One thing you cant deny is that you dont get any suprises. He supports his label heavily (understandably) but he seems quite content to play whatever is big along with a few older numbers.

that's just what he does though. he appeals to the easiest common denominator.

But you have to admit, if anything else, he's a gateway drug. I doubt that some n00b is going to get into electronic music by one day waking up and saying... I used to like rock, but now I've realized that vocals and melody are cheeze... J00F ftw!

So if anything else, Tiesto is important for that reason.

there's no saying it isn't important to people, a lot of people, admitting it or not, will list one of armin tiesto pvd etc as their early favourite djs before moving on. Some people dont move on, but a lot do. However a lot of people who slag him for unfair reasons (ie. because he's popular rather than cos of what he plays or how he plays it) cause problems.

Why do you think it's called "moving on"? Precisely you'd like to say the music Tiësto and his likes play is a lower form of electronic music. That's wrong; perhaps it's more accessable, yes, but thats all.

I changed a lot the past years / my taste changed. I'm more open to deep progressive trance and psytrance too nowadays (E.g Dousk or Whirloop); but I still enjoy Tiësto sets. It's really no shame to listen to that music too. And I think I'll always find a time to listen to one of his sets in the future too now and then. I'm really not going to give this up because "I want to move on in a 'good' way".

Ontopic: I think Tiësto is slightly getting up from the slumber he used to be in at 2004.

I gotta say that ending does look tasty with the lolitas there...

I agree with some of the folks here, tastes change and that's all there is to it. I myself have moved on to less bpm's aka house but I don't fall on the usual hating of the big names just because they're more popular... It is what it is.
MichaelBoogerd!
Actually apart from the tunes he really likes (Progression, Ralphie) he does not support the label as hard as in say 2001-2.

If anything, the label is finally bigger than Tiesto's playlist - supporting the b-list careers of Cor Fijneman, Mark Norman and Ton TB as well as Tiesto's hits.

While i'd have to agree he is the focal point for new party-goers - partly from reputation, partly from accessibility... he can still 'drop' a deeper, thought out, intelligent built up set when he wants to.

It is what i just heard in Vienna (thanks Konijn for posting the t/list!) where he forgets to be the hyped-up-superstar, and just plays - those are nights to roll back the years to a time when the whole Tiesto scene was not so engulfed in hype machine.
