The Worst synth, soundcard, mointers ect
View this Thread in Original format

Well there seems to be quite a lot of information on this forum regarding what's the best synth, soundcard, mixer ect so the point of this thread is to list some of the worst things to spend your money on.

Ever brought somthing only to find out it's crap? With the amount of money some of this stuff cost's there are some expensive mistakes to be made so aviod the following

1) EMU XK6 XTREME KEYS - SYNTH
http://www.vintagesynth.com/index2.html

This is by far the biggest lump of crap I have ever wasted my money on. And I thought I was getting a good deal for £500! This is a sample based synth which really limits what you can do.
That wouldn't be so bad if any of the presets where useable which they are not. I don't think there was anything even remotley trancey in the whole thing. When you can get somthing such as a Novation KS rack for less than £150 this really put's things into prespective.

Aviod

2) FL STUDIO - BOXED VERSION

Man no free updates or anything really. Just get it from the website to save our self the bother.

Please post you examples

Ouch, 500 pounds for an EMU ROMpler, that's alot. The Xtreme Lead rack version usually goes for about 200$ ... I guess for that kind of money it'd be OK, but I understand your frustration, for 500 pounds... :p

man plz someone give me an idea for a souncard!
i have finished building my production computer but all i need is a good souncard!
should i wait? whats coming out soon? where can i find the latest soundcards?

points: need good latency
What card has good latency but is external? i may want to a laptop oneday for other stuff or mobile production!
money $600AUD UPTO approx est.

want maybe some good inputs for ext synths oneday. only a couple of inputs plus a mic input! also 24bit/96 is that pretty standard!

well if anyone has anything they can help me with i would appriciate it alot.
ps. i know how to search, but i would rather talk to a TA!

THANKS

there are a lot of firewire audio interfaces around, that u can use either on desktop and laptop. good ones are MOTU traveller or Ultralite, M audio 410 (not as good), and many ohers i cant remember. just remember DONT get usb devices, they are .

I had an Audigy 2 ZS and it wasn't that bad. Obviously not the same quality as the more "professional" cards but I wasn't expecting that either. You have to keep things in perspective.

hey guys heres what i have come up with.

since money aint much of a prob im gonna go with a expensive mid range card! although most features may not be applicable for me in the production process it may come in handy further down the track!

some in mind atm:

Focusrite Saffire Firwire audio DSP

MOTU UltraLite 10* 14

M-Audio Firewire Audiophile 2496

M-Audio Firewire 410

Focusrite Saffire LE FW AI

ECHO AudioFire 8 FW AI

anyway main thing is good quality and not to go over kill in inputs.
im also only using reason 3.0 but i want to expand so i dont want to just settle with a boring pci audio card just for generating a signal.
$USD 550 MAX

the motu ultralite says no latency? is that the same type of latency thier talking about with midi signal to the generation of the signal from synth. or is it just the live audio input latency?

any advice?
sorry to hi jack dude hehe , but its pointless making another stupid thread.

Edirol midi keyboards - stay away from them! Had the PCR-50 for about a year sitting in my wardrobe doing nothing as I was using my M-Audio keyboard and when I hooked it up, half the keys weren't working at all. :eyespop:

Emailed their support who basically said "buy a new one.". Apparently its common with Edirol keyboards when one or two keys just decide to stop working for no apparent reason, regardless of "little" or "lots" of use, but in my case "hardly" used.

Stay away from them!
