um.. ya.. it use to only skip a little bit before when recording, i have a pentium 2.. just installed 512 mb ram, and my hard drives are pretty clear / clean..
what else can i do?

its skipping even worse now.. i think i could tell though, because although speed is basically faster, sometimes even just doing whatever, the mouse will freeze for a sec or two..

help, PLEEEZ!!! or else i cant enter the mix competition.. calling all techies..:D

hmmmm is your hard drive mostly full or do u have a lot of space still left? b/c the amount of available space on hard drive effect your computers performance. oh and how fast is your hard drive?? 7200rpm is more then enough. maybe you should think about upgrading your cpu from P2 to amd athlon or P4 .. i recommend athlons .. its cheaper then P4 and its dayam reliable and fast =) esp for those hardcore programs you need to run. but remember... it could be many things or a combination of many things that make your computer glitch like that.

if you are getting skipping, sounds like more of a souncard prob, rather than hd/cpu/ram. What OS are you running with what sound card?

hm well i have quite a bit of disk space remaining but it says in system only 25% resource free, i guess that's programs running?
sposedly that's bad..

its pentium 2, but i figured the RAM would more than make up for that, right?
anyways it was BETTER before so im sure there is a solution to this problem.. heh.. thanks all:D

Thats your problem right there. Only 25% of resource free. When was the last time you re-formatted your computer?

yea I agree with DJ sketch, your PC may be in need of a format. Also type msconfig in the run and turn off everything on startup, kill everything on the startbar and use Ctrl + Alt + Del & end task all but the vitals, a defrag may be a good thing to...
patticus
well my comp is segmented into drives, 27 gigs total, and there's a lot of space on c (about a 1gig+) and 300 or so MB remaining on each drive "d" and "e"

my drive c was just recently reformatted, and defragged..

but ya i managed to get my system resources up to 55%, should that be enough?:D

could be that the ram you bought is of ty quality? whats the brand name?

Hey Patticus- How ya doin' my friend? If you only have 25 or even 55% resources free....It sounds like there are a lot of things being loaded when you boot up. You might try taking some things out that aren't vital to your needs. Another thing you can try, if yo don't want to reconfigure your system....is if you have a CD writer and if your system will allow you to boot from a CD....you can make a boot CD and have it load only those thing thats you need for your music software. If you try that and it still doesn't help, I don't know what to tel you..it could be a number of things...maybe do an extensive test on that new memory...Also, you might want to reinstall all the drivers for your soundcard (I would opt for that first).
Hope you get it resolved.
BTW- Right now, one of your sets is filling the airwaves of Los Angeles. Real good stuff Pat.

What Operating System are you running, and have u tried pressing Windows Key + R (Run on the startbar), typing msconfig and deleting all the stuff from startup?

patticus
thanx for the replies guys, i tried recording when i had like 75% free and it was a lot better, not perfect tho.. system resources go down the longer your computer is on? just wondering..

ya maybe i'll look into that sound card thing johnny, thanx a lot :D
and nice to know someone somewhere is listening to my mixes.. hehe..

you'll hear from me soon:p

maybe its the processor imho

it could also be your motherboard

if the mobo is slow it could be that limiting everything else. the procesor also plays a big kinda part in it, (ie winamp skips on a p 133 16 megs of ram that i have).

also if u run about 1000000 apps at once it takes more resources (so check ur system tray for uneccessary crap)

most likely its the processor tho.... not enough muscle power ;P
