Some people are incredibly stupid

This eBay auction made me laugh.

€71 for a signed Tiesto CD? Damn there are a lot of fanboys out there. I could certainally think of an awful lot of stuff I'd rather spend my money on.

Just because you wouldn't pay for it, doesn't make someone else stupid for doing it. Collecting memorabelia is a hobby. Just like buying autographed sports cards, which will go for 100x that amount, if not more. Explain to me what the diference is?
zoric
That's a little wrong Chris, even though I would never had payed so much money for something like that.

The Euro gets a ty exchange rate, doesn't it? Mine says it's going for £41.

Agreed, except for the "which will go for 100x that amount" part :p

Maybe Baseball cards will hold their value, but I'll tell you this much, 80 years down the line, if this CD isn't sitting in a landfill somewhere decomposing, it won't be worth £4100 ;)
rustyryan
but what if it is sitting in a landfill somewhere? Will it be worth £4100 then? ;)

and what ever happened to it being ok for people to buy things based on sentimentality and not expected payoff. Maybe the guy has delusions of his Tijs signature being worth something, or maybe he attended an event at which Tijs played a set of which he has many fond memories, and he would like something that reminds him of that experience.

I certainly wouldn't pay €71, anyhow.

Is it really that hard for some people to get these things autographed themselves without paying retarded amounts?

I see people handing things up for autographs all the time, so much so that I don't understand how some DJs, like Armin, can focus on their jobs because of the frequency. They literally have stagehands to get things and then they sign when they get a chance. I just don't bother most of the time because I don't want to bring things to be autographed to a club, but my girlfriend has tons of autographed CDs and other memorabilia (UFOs with Ferry and Tiesto's autographs, etc.) from a few years ago before we started dating.

+1

Maybe a bit hypocritical for me to say, but just how difficult would it be to get obsessive enough to start mimicking the signiature, until its 100% accurate.

Buy a bulk of cd's on the cheap, sign the front and the inlay, bob's your uncle, molly's your aunt - you just got yourself a little Tiesto fortune.

imo it doesn't really makse sense to buy autographed stuff signed by people who are still alive. a babe ruth card or something makes sense, but for a dj like tiesto who tours all over the world and willingly signs stuff after shows it just doesn't make sense. getting an artist/athlete/dj to sign something for you is part of the event experience.
