I dunno this whole pricing structure sucks balls these days. The whole point is that you can buy individual remixes if you don't like all of the tracks on each release & they were always priced at a level where you might as well buy it instead of downloading a ty P2P rip. The prices were always about 70p to £1.25 per track & life was good.
Recently prices have increased to £1.50 per track then £1.99 per track. A vinyl record costs around £6 but you get up to 4 mixes on it. These days digital downloads costs just as much if not more (it's now likely to be £8 for the same 4 mixes).
It's the same as anything, lure customers in then when they're comfortable with it, ramp up the prices. Someone, somewhere is getting greedy.
There's around 4 or 5 really big players in the EDM digital download scene. I'm not suggesting this is happening if any lawyers are reading, but it is possible that between them, the big players could potentially keep prices artificially higher than they need to be. If everyone toes the line & prices at a certain level, the market will be spread evenly therefore with no price war all the big players are kept happy. I believe there was an investigation into this scenario recently in the air travel industry. |

That's a good point: we all want to pay for something that is better than a 128k mp3, but, with a fair price. So, we're not only supporting producers but paying for quality.
They're lucky that people don't use to rip and share their trance CDs at 320k. If so, more people would be tempted to get a track on the internet instead of buy it.
They’re lucky too that people don’t use to share tracks that have been bought at BeatPort. I’ve never seen any. Well, once I saw some, but those tracks were available for free at BeatPort. |

heh glad to help. I was only born in Burton, but i've been repressing it for a long time :D I do love going to the Ventura park asda though, the girls who work there love the fact I don't sound half-brummie ;) |

I complained about the new pricing to them and asked whether there would be a £1 .wav download charge now instead of a $1. Check this out for an essay of a reply that doesn't even answer my question:

Thanks for the info. I've been thinking about this & the more I think about it the angrier I get. There's one paragraph in your reply from Beatport that sums up exactly what winds me up:

By selling digital music, labels profits increase immediately without having to sell any more units. The cost of pressing vinyl or CD is eliminated, there are no packaging costs & the cost of transporting goods to the stores is nil. You could argue that advertising costs are also reduced as Beatport is a huge name so many people will just go straight there & hunt through the new releases at Beatport - do the labels still need to take out adverts in all the DJ mags for a couple of months when their target audience is already visiting Beatport every day? I don't know the cost of having your new release advertised on Beatports splash page so I may be wrong on that last point.
The real kick in the balls in that statement from Beatport is this: the others charge more & are getting away with it so we will too.
Once someone sets a precedent the others will follow suit... Soon someone will increase the price to £2.50 per track & the rest will no doubt follow.
I doubt our emails will affect their decision. I shall be keeping an eye on the labels own sites, the producers own sites & also on some of the lesser known sites from now on & hopefully not get ripped off by the sheer greed of Beatport.
At £1.99 per track I'll likely be buying less music. At $1.49 or $1.99 I'd usually take a risk on a track or remix I wasn't 100% sure of, but I won't at £1.99 (especially as my job is in danger & the missus is on maternity leave with our 2nd child due at any minute, it's all good fun :tongue2 ).

So it's basically £2.50 a track for me. That's pretty much twice what Vonyc charge.
Anybody have any Beatport alternatives that sell wavs for cheaper than £2.50 a track? |

| Bought and paid for 4 tracks today and it couldn't find them on the server. And great, they added track times now :rolleyes: I bought 2 tracks that were only 4 minutes long. wtf mate :wtf: |
