With all the debate against racial profiling and clear indications that majority of terrorists are of Middle Eastern/Pakistani origins - what do you think about racial profiling.
I know it's a sad sad times we're living in but what would be your thoughts if let's say tomorrow international security at airports started paying extra attention to middle eastern travelers? |

| There is already some profiling down for people from certain parts of the world, but I would not mind if racial profiling was done in conjunction with data-mining and other counter terroism operations. Being politically correct and sensitive to feelings isn't going to prevent terroism. |

| maybe if they changed the name to "proactive intelligence screening." plus, it's fine if we're at war with every 3rd person on the metro, remember random, except we're not at war w/every 3rd person. |

| I don't support profiling, but it occurs all the time and judging that blacks get stricter sentences than whites for commiting the same crime. It's not right because white people would always get away with their hand slapped compared to their face. |

Harsher punishment is not exactly the same as racial profiling.
Research has shown that there is an even proportion of blacks, whites, and hispanics who posess illegal substances, however 97% of all drug arrestts consist of blacks and hispanics. That's an example of profiling. You fit X description therefore we feel you are more likely to be involved in X activity whether it's true or not. We use profiling to catch people before they do something bad. Unfair or biased punishment is another issue ;)
As far as profiling is concerned when it comes to terrorism, I would hope, or at least like to believe that there is a more sophistocated way to catch potential terrorists. I'm not sure though. That's a tough question. My first and middle name are Arabic. I've only been "randomly selected for more thorough inspection" at an airport before boarding one time. I wonder if a red flag goes up when they see my name, but when they see that I'm not Arab they disregaurd it. I've seen an entire Arab family of at least 10 people who were all "randomly selected" before boarding a flight I was on. I hate to say it but I was a bit nervous seeing them walk back and forth on the plane during the flight. Gotta love that propoganda and hysteria  . If I'm not mistaken, they were flying first class. |

If you've got nothing to hide then what's the problem?
Yes, for the sake of security, some liberty will be the cost however most will agree that some security is better than no security. |
