hi NYTAs!
DJ RJT and i will be in NY visiting from Aug 19th-25th. we'll be staying up in Westchester, but hoping to get down into the city for at least one day to do some hangin' out in the village and some record shopping, and i've heard Halcyon is one of the best record shops.
walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is something i've always wanted to do and i noticed that Halcyon is not too far away from that, it appears to be just a couple blocks away from where the bridge meets in Brooklyn. i'm just curious if it's as easy as taking a left on Water St and walking down a few blocks, or if it's more complicated. it's kinda hard to tell from the map but i just want to figure out if this is something we could plan to do. also is that area pretty safe or do we need to watch our backs at every step?
also, are there any other sweet record stores in the downtown/village area that are worth checking out?
i basically just really wanna stay away from Times Square and midtown and the crappy touristy areas. i grew up in NY but haven't spent enough time in the city to really know my way around like a pro, but i'd like to show RJT some areas and places that are chill NY spots and not your typical crazy/stressful areas.
thanks for your help. :D |

| Most streets are safe in the daytime but still anything can happen anywhere so be cautious. If you dont feel safe then you probably arent. I dont know much about records stores but I could help with pretty much anything else. When you get down here give me a shout. If I am available I can show you around a bit if you need some help. But damn Westchester is FARRRRRR. Im in Queens. |

defintely checkout DANCETRACKS they have very good selection in house music[dont know if youre into it tho] also, i'll let you in on some .. checkout virgin on union sq. they have a decent selection of all genres of edm in the lower level. there is ONE turntable which you can use to listen to the records before buying. all you need to do is let them hold your id and they give you needles and headphones. the good thing is that you can find many genres and the price is great, lots of $9.99 imports and like that.. barely anyone uses the turntable so you can take your time listening etc. good luck.
edit : oh and also, if youre comin on the 19th, be sure to stop by my party, its free and the music will be on point. :D |

Satellite's in the Lower East Side, address is in the visitor's thread. Apparently, they just started buying and selling used vinyl, too, so if you're looking to dump some old stuff that is just taking up space, here's a chance - http://www.rhythmism.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42272 |

nice, Virgin has some decent selection and i didn't even know there was one at Union Sq... i've only been to the one in Times Sq. i'm a house junkie so i'll add Dancetracks to my list of places to check out!
as for your party... we'll be driving out from Wisconsin on the 19th so we won't even get there until that night, at which point we're probably going to pick up some pizza and then crash out at my old house, heh. :p |

we'll probably be down in the city during one of the weekdays that we'll be out there, so i dunno if you'll be at work, but we'd love to hang even if it's after you get off! we're kinda waiting to see what the weather is gonna be like and what else we got goin on before we make any definite plans to hang out in the city, but i'll for sure let you know. |
